My son and I stayed at this hotel the night before a visit to nearby American University. It was much less expensive to stay here ($189) than in downtown DC or Georgetown ($359+), and was only a 10-minute taxi ride from the school. The hotel's decor/amenities are consistent with other Courtyard hotels, and it offers a full restaurant and snack/convenience store. Chevy Chase also has many dining options within walking distance. The adjacent parking was $15 per day, also quite a bit less than a DC hotel would charge. The hotel staff was very helpful with getting a taxi for us in the morning and giving me instructions about returning via Metro (from the Capitol Hill area, which would have been a $35+ cab ride) later in the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a visit to the area or the far NW area of DC!

Very new clean hotel. Service is good. I don't care for the restaurant/bar. They don't have a lot of choices and the bar doesn't stay open very late. Parking is also a challenge because the parking garage is very constrained. Not sure how a large vehicle would even fit in the garage.

My first review of this property wasn't great because of difficulties with the air conditioning. We decided to give the hotel another try because it was very nice and in a very convenient location for us. I'm happy to say that we had a much more pleasant stay. Our son is a grad student at American University so this is a perfect hotel for us. I'm sure we will be back often!

Dear Melissa P, Thank you for reviewing our hotel and for coming back for a second visit after experiencing issues with the air conditioning during your first stay. I'm glad we got it right the second time! We look forward to you returning again soon! Sincerely, A.Harris

This is an average Courtyard, with reasonable rates, in a good location. I often wonder where these other people stay when they are so effusive about this hotel.

The hotel reeks of air freshener, the towels are over bleached and scratchy, the rooms are dated and just okay (like the entire hotel) and our first room was so small that we asked to be moved to another room. As mentioned by others, the heating/AC system is miserable. You have two choices: hot or cold. But, for those who like it hot during the winter, you'll be delighted.

Since it is a Courtyard brand, there is a frig and coffee maker in the room and a little pantry store downstairs. There is also a restaurant (we did not eat there), which serves Starbucks.

The pro's are:
-on-site parking with easy access
And, within walking distance ---
*metro stops
*restaurants
*large stores for shopping (Bloomingdales, Saks, etc.), as well as upscale boutiques and brand-name stores

So, there are a lot of opportunities to spend time out of the hotel when you are not visiting the sites in DC or conducting business.

If you have to stay at a Marriott brand hotel in the Chevy Chase area, this would be an option. Again, I would not make it my first choice if it were not for the location close to shopping and restaurants.

Dear Heather H, Thank you for your review of our hotel. I am happy to hear that you found our hotel convenient to area restaurants, shopping and parking. I apologize that your guestroom experience did not meet your expectations and that you had to be moved to another room. Due to the age of the building we have rooms with varying configurations. If you found that your second room was more to your liking please request one like it for your next stay and we will do our best to honor it. I am also sorry that you found our towels unsatisfactory and the air freshener too strong. We rotate in new linen inventory monthly and due to your comments we will be sure to recheck our stock to see if there are linens that we need to pull early. Also, please feel free to let us know at check-in that you prefer no or light air freshener to be used in your room during your stay. We would be happy to accommodate your wishes and we do hope you return to our hotel.

I stayed here for 5 nights in November, 2014. My room was comfortable and clean. There is a small fitness room and a few times it was full so I had to exercise at a different time. There is a restaurant in the lobby and the food there is nice. I would have liked a hot, buffet-style breakfast in the mornings as I had to get to work each day and was on the go. I did not have time to have a fancy sit-down breakfast every morning. The pillows were comfortable. The hotel was quiet. And I slept very well. This hotel is in the middle of an upscale shopping district: Cartier, Dior, Gucci, J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, Jimmy Choo. And just window shopping made for a fun experience. I will definitely stay here again.

Room tip: Ask for a room on the 11th or 12th floor. Nice city scape views.
