“The Perfect Place to Celebrate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2010

When our son chose to attend a college in mid-coast Maine, we were excited about the opportunity to explore a new region. Our first visit, in the spring of 2008, brought us to the lovely little town of Belfast and the White House Inn. In the intervening years we've stayed at the White House several more times, and just last week took over the Inn with our extended family to celebrate Will's graduation. All I can say is that not only is the Inn itself gorgeous, but the hospitality we have enjoyed is unmatched. Diana and Sandy Rich are consummate hosts; breakfasts are unbelievable, and when we needed a home away from home, we were treated like family.
Details: the rooms are beautifully decorated, with luxurious linens and towels; each room has a flat-screen TV, and the inn's selection of DVDs kept grandchildren occupied on a rainy evening. It's located within walking distance of town, which is great, and the Riches are very helpful with information on local dining, etc. Breakfast is at your convenience, and you can either sit at the large dining room table or at a smaller table in one of the parlors. The overall experience is really more that of a lovely little boutique hotel than a B&B.
We will miss Belfast, the White House, and the Riches. But since our son has so far not made any indication that he's leaving Maine, future visits may in fact be in store.

“Elegant and restful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2010

We stayed three winter nights, and I was in the inn, reading and writing, most of the time while my husband was in meetings, so I really experienced the attentive but non-intrusive care of these hosts. Breakfasts were amazing, and lasted me through the day, and the inn itself is a beautiful historic sea captain house, lovingly restored. We will surely return.

“World class, authentic, heritage site with innkeepers to match”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2010

We experienced the innkeepers as global citizens who are rightly proud of their registered heritage site. They struck the perfect balance between being accomodating and available whenever needed and not being overly intrusive or faux friendly. Their breakfast presentations displayed culinary sophistication and just plain tasted good! They proactively helped with dinner reservations (it was Valentine's Day).
The buildings are immaculate, outside and in. Furnishings are borderline museum pieces, in good taste. Rooms combine nineteenth century elegance and charm with modern amenities such as crisp flat screen TVs, a library of goodmovies to watch, and strong WiFi throughout. We enjoyed the deluxe Scrabble game, also the classical music played softly in the room with the grand piano. .

“The Real Deal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

The "Bed" and the "Breakfast" are only small parts of the delightful experience of staying at the White House. A 3 night stay felt like we were on vacation for a week! The owners are extremly accommodating - and - it's definitley "Home Away From Home" - for the discerning traveler.

“Why visit Belfast and not stay at The White House B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2010

Although this is my first post I have actually stayed at this B&B twice! I travel to the area once a month and I now look forward to staying there again-and-again. I've stayed at other Inns and hotels but nothing compares to the hospitality, attention to detail and elegance of this Bed and Breakfast (the food too, but more on that later).

Sandy and Diana make for perfect hosts. On this visit we took advantage of the Valentine's Day weekend and made for a romantic trip - and it started the minute we walked into the B&B....

A roaring fire in the wood burning fireplace and a glass of wine in my hand before I could take off my coat. Now that's service, wouldn't you say? My wife and Diana disappeared and by the time I made my way upstairs there were chocolates and champagne waiting for me.... cheese and salami, honey and figs..... It was my wife's idea but Sandy and Diana helped plan this great surprise.

And the breakfast. OMG. The food alone makes this place a destination for me. Sandy loves suprising us with great breakfasts - and sharing wonderful conversation with them over the meal makes it that much more special.

We're planning to move to Belfast and it's nice to know we'll have friends waiting for us there when we arrive!

I'm already planning on my trip up there next month and look forward to seeing my new friends.
