When we arrived at this hotel, all you could smell were the sugar beets from the nearby Amalgamated Sugar factory. Although you couldn’t really smell them in the rooms or the pool area, anytime you went outside or were in the lobby, the odor was present. Parking was easy to access and the check in process went very smoothly. The lobby area and both our rooms were very clean; however, the mattress in the first room was very uncomfortable. We changed rooms at this point from the east side of the hotel to a room on the west side. The mattress in the 2nd room was very comfortable so I guess it’s hit or miss. Both rooms were very clean. Later on we realized that the west side of the hotel faced the more active railroad tracks and that the engineers love to do nothing but blow their whistle at odd hours of the night, something that we didn’t notice in the 1st room. The pool/spa area was clean and had plenty of towels; however, the bottom surface of the pool/spa was very rough and in need of a repair or resurfacing. The gym and laundry areas were also very clean ($1.25 per wash and $1.25 per dry – bring your own quarters). The complimentary breakfast was pretty nice, with basic cereals, muffins and pastries, yogurts and fruits, eggs, bacon, sausage and waffles. A suggestion to the hotel here would be to offer strawberries and whipped cream. Free wi-fi in the rooms and lobby area was a nice touch, the staff was very friendly and attentive and there are plenty of close restaurants such as Olive Garden, TGI Friday’s, Sonic, etc.
