“Beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2008

Our family stayed at the Sunnyside for a wedding this spring. The staff at the hotel was very nice and accommodating and helped arrange for babysitting services. The location is gorgeous which made for a gorgeous wedding, too. We want to return again in the summer time for drinks on the deck, a boat ride on the lake and nearby hiking.

  • Liked — Location on the lake
  • Disliked — The rooms are a little small when traveling with two small children and lots of luggage.

The front desk was very friendly and helpful. We had room 40. It was a little noisy, but we only paid $100. The large stone fireplace was wonderful because it was cold. This was a large room with a king bed and queen sofabed. It is a very quaint hotel. Not a lot of frills but was so cozy for us. We had a little patio ouside the back door. Tis room is on the ground level and you can park in front of it. I did not see any elevators. There are two places to eat in the lodge. The grill and bar has good food and not as expensive as the restaurant. Lovely views of the lake as you eat. Upstairs hot tea and cookies are served for guests in the afternoon. The room overlooks the lake. Wonderful when it is cold outside. Loved walking around outside. Very pretty. We enjoyed ourselves. There is breakfast in the morning of pasteries, toast, and cereal.

  • Liked — The view of the lake
  • Disliked — the street noise

“Home Away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2008

We enjoyed our dinner and accomodations at Sunnyside during our spring ski trip this year. Our room was in the original lodge part of the building, with a private balcony and gorgeous view of the Sunnyside docks and Lake Tahoe. We were very comfortable in our room - nicely appointed, with a super comfy bed, better than many of the casinos, but still not Four Seasons. We had dinner at the bar downstairs, and were fully impressed with the fantastic wine list - perfect and unique pickings without enormous price tags. In the morning, there is a continental breakfast upstairs in the common area. It felt like we were in an old hotel, where folks would sit in the windows, drink tea and play games together. We loved Sunnyside's neatness and atmosphere, especially the reflection of its lakeside lodge heritage. We'll be back for a longer stay next time!

“Very comfortable”

My fiance and I stayed her for two nights mid-week as part of a stay and ski package ($259 per night). We had a room on the second floor that was at the end of the rooms that had a view. It was a standard room but a good size and comfortable. It has a small deck. One night we watched the sun set beautifully over the lake. We enjoyed the place. It does have a rockin nightlife on Wednesday nights in which we didn't participate. We were glad our room wasn't too close to the restaurant/bar area.

“went for our honeymoon and loved it!”

My husband and I stayed at Sunnyside in October 2006 for our honeymoon. We thought that October would be a good (i.e. less crowded) month to visit Lake Tahoe. We loved Sunnyside - we had a room with a fabulous view of the lake, and everything was clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Our only complaint was that the pizza joint they recommended to us had absolutely the worst pizza we'd ever had, but that's probably just an east coast-west coast difference! Loved the breakfast and afternoon snacks, and we had a fabulous and relaxing time. The restaurant was a bit noisy and not our favorite in the area, but that's no big deal. And I do have to say that our room was right above the restaurant and we had no problem with noise in our room - and we go to bed early! I have no idea what the other rooms are like, but ours was fabulous. Ask for a lake view! Room 37!
And PS, we were there for a week and spent a lot of time driving around the perimeter of the lake. Tahoe City is definitely one of the top spots on the lake, and Sunnsyide appeared to have the best location of any hotel there.
