I was really disappointed in this hotel. The rooms are on the second floor and there is no elevator which means you have to drag your luggage up stairs. The carpet in the hallway where the rooms are located is disgustingly dirty. When I arrived I was looking forward to a long, hot bath because my back was killing me. There was no bathtub! So, I thought well I'll put my clothes away. Nope. I couldn't do that either because there were no drawers for the clothes. So, I hung what I could in the closet and thought well I will order some room service because I was too tired to go out. Nope. They don't offer room service. I gave up and went to sleep. The next evening I was trying to get ready and realized it was really dark in the room. There were only two lamps and they were very dim so trying to put on my makeup was interesting. I was very disappointed in this hotel. I would not recommend it!

Dear The-Traveling-Femme,

Please allow us to first apologize for the unfortunate experience you recently had with us. Being in the heart of Sonoma, it is our aim to be the best ambassadors we can and provide our guests with an enjoyable and leisurely stay. Your grievances come to us with great concern and will be targeted specifically as we begin "breaking ground" on a deserved soft goods renovation. It is during this time that we will address the obstacles you mentioned to better enhance guest experience at El Dorado. As is common in many such places, El Dorado's historic property has challenged our team to create a space that is comfortable, accessible and functional. We are pleased to learn that our partial renovation will include upgraded amenities and furniture that will better accommodate guest belongings and allow for us to provide additional services in-house, i.e. room service. Again, I sincerely apologize that these amenities were not available to you during your stay.

Due to the historic nature of our property, we will endure certain restrictions that may not be found elsewhere. Unfortunately, although they are most certainly in line with an enjoyable hotel stay, a bathtub is something that our rooms cannot accommodate. For those guests booked in our rooms on the second floor, an elevator would be most preferred. Although we do not have an elevator on property nor a dedicated bell staff, we have made it policy that our employees assist our guests with their luggage to the best of their ability. This is not just a courtesy to our guest, but it falls directly in line with our mission to ensure our guests enjoy their time with us without any extra and unnecessary effort to be put forth on their part. It seems as though you may not have been offered assistance in transporting your luggage to your room upon your arrival. This incident has been brought to the attention of our staff and has not gone overlooked.

In closing, we regret that El Dorado fell short in providing you the experience most deserved and expected. We are excited for the upcoming renovation and hope that it may be possible for you to see the changes we make and let us show you what it is we pride ourselves in providing to our guests.

Please do reach out to me via phone or e-mail (provided below), so that I may discuss with you how we can best amend this situation. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

All the best,
Kenneth Walter

Took my wife with me on a business trip - so I was looking for something on the Plaza in downtown Sonoma so she would have thugs to do while I worked.

Could not have picked a better place - one of the most active restaurants on the plaza - central to the park, shopping, other restaurants, wine bars, and historic sites.

This is an old historic hotel - but completely remodeled and updated. The bed was comfortable, the room immaculate, and bathroom clean and modern. Our room faced the street which allowed quite a bit of noise in - but traffic thins out at 11:00 pm (it was a Friday / Saturday night) - I had to look out to see if they left the sidewalks down or if they rolled them up.

Our sleep wasn't interrupted with noise.

Pool was small but nicely payed out - only complaint was parking. They have 27 rooms and 6 parking spots (not counting 2 handicapped spaces). But I left business stuff in the back of my pickup truck all night on the street and nothing was disturbed.

Staff were all professional and VERY nice.

I would gladly stay here again.

We recently spent the weekend at the El Dorado Hotel right in Sonoma, CA. It was our first time in the Sonoma Valley and at the last minute we decided to book a room in Sonoma. It just happened to be the last room available right in town for under $500. Our room ($325/night) was spacious, clean, included a refrigerator with cold water and even a deck with two chairs overlooking the EDK patio. Some people might complain about the noise coming from the patio, but we embraced the fact that everyone was having a wonderful time enjoying the delicious EDK menu and the fine California wine. The second evening we witnessed a wedding reception from our deck that brought us both to tears. If you are looking for a Sonoma gem, Eldorado Hotel is perfect. If you are looking for peace and quiet, find a B&B out in the country.

Room tip: Our room was in the hotel overlooking the patio.

We spent 2 nights at this great hotel.. It is superbly situated on the square in Sonoma. The restaurant is great value breakfast, lunch or dinner and the waiters are very well versed in wine pairings and the different local vintners.... The staff are brilliantly friendly and helpful. I would suggest asking for a room not facing the courtyard as it can be a little noisy at night.....

Room tip: only at night not he courtyard side as the balconies overlook the patio of the restaurant. While it can be noisy it's also a happy noise of people enjoying themselves...

Everything you could want in an elegant, simple was. The room faced the square. (Was slight bright at night) it was an extremely small but delightful room. The bathroom was awesome. Service ok. They don't accomodate early check in and are even slightly rude about you asking. I saw people get good service, they just didn't offer it to me. I'm not trendy enough for this place.

Room tip: If you need dark nights, choose off the square view.
