We went for a bachelorette weekend away. This was my first time to Palm Desert, and let me say that I quite enjoyed it. It was relaxing with beautiful grounds a great pool and good on-site restaurant options. Also, it seems that the club there Costas is a VERY happening spot (wasn't really my scene, so I didn't hang out long, but the girls LOVED it)!
The only sour note of the trip, upon check-in we were informed that as guests at the Villas II we were not allowed to use the main pool (the one with the really happening scene/music, bars, food, etc). This was a HORRIBLE disappointment, as we booked our room 6 months in advance and were never made aware of this restriction! Why on earth would 12 30-something girls want to be stuck at family pools and miss out on all the action. None of the staff seemed eager to help, or remorseful for the oversight.
After much back and forth, and then some more, we were given 20% off of our dinner that night at Sea Grille and complimentary entrance to the club, no waiting, and VIP access. Mind you there were still issues when the dinner bill came, and the discount was not included. Our waiter was very gracious and the matter was handled quickly. The club was another big to do. We had to argue at the door about the hotel comping us, etc, but eventually we were let in and those of our group that paid to get in were reimbursed, but after all this, the mood was spoiled and I left to retire to the villa.
Speaking of accommodations, we had two adjoining suites. They were spacious and fit 7 more than comfortably. We were originally going to have 8-10 and we still would have been very comfortable. There was enough space for us all to get ready, move about, and sleep. Being on a golf course, the grounds were very pleasant, with duck ponds, and rolling lush hills. All I can say is be sure to remember your block address, because at night all of the buildings look exactly the same and it's a nightmare of a maze trying to find your way back, lol!
It's self contained resort, which is always nice when traveling with a group. Not having to leave the property to go to dinner or breakfast is great. Everyone's in the same place at all time, Vegas would have been a nightmare.
The first night we ate at Sea Grille, and 2nd night Mikado, both were good. I HIGHLY recommend the Plum Wine Cocktail at Mikado, YUM-YUM!!! Be forewarned, it gets very smoky inside. It's a Benihana style restaurant, which I'm not a huge fan of, but the food was pretty good.
All in all, I recommend the Desert Villas II, despite not being properly compensated for a huge mistake on their part and a very evident lack of compassion; it was otherwise a good stay, great and convenient location. I'd definitely go back.
