Last week, it was pubic hairs left on the toilet. Last year, it was the empty condom wrapper on the floor by the bed. One more incident like this and it is finally time to look elsewhere. I have been staying at this hotel for the past 4 years, approximately 20 nights per year for business. My review back in 2009 was titled "Ick". Sadly, the place has gone further downhill since. The problem with the Anaheim/Orange area, however, is that there are no reasonable and good places to choose from so you are essentially stuck in a place like this if you are in the area on business and don't want to be overrun by mouseketeers.
Everything in the hotel is old and run down. The new flat screen TV's certainly do not constitute a refresh. Unfortunately, since this is a high demand area and most of the hotels in the Disney area are dumps, this hotel doesn't need incentive to aim that high.
For all the years I have been staying there, I have yet to have a good night's sleep. The beds and pillows are awful. There remains the musty odor in the halls and rooms that I noted back in 2009. I try not to look at the carpeting in either the halls or the rooms because it is so worn down and gross. On the plus side, the rooms are big and the sower is a decent size. There is no free wireless in the rooms, which is a ripoff (it is free in the lobby). Good luck trying to get your wireless aircard to work - the reception in the room is awful.
I have had increasing dissatisfaction with this place, but my visit last week warranted an updated review. It seems as if there has been a change in management because something is certainly "off" in this place now. One thing that made my stay bearable in the past was the wonderful staff. Everyone at the front desk would recognize me immediately as a frequent guest, and those that didn't immediately greeted be with a "welcome back" when they signed me in and how much I stay there. Last week, when I checked in, the two gentlemen behind the desk were polite but had a sort of vacant look about them. I was not recognized as a returning/regular guest and they seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else other than behind that desk. Generally speaking, the front desk staff now all give off the air that they are trainees. No one I have dealt with seems to have been in the hotel industry for a while. On my visit there in December, it took the person checking me out a solid 10 minutes to add my breakfast from that morning onto the bill.
Well, after check in, I made my way up to the room, went to use the bathroom and saw the few pubic hairs on the toilet (cover and seat). I called the front desk to ask to change my room - no answer. Dragged all my luggage and bags downstairs. There was no one at the desk except the 2 men - not sure why they didn't answer the phone. I explained my issue and was given an "oh, sorry" along with my new room key.
On the last of my 3 night st ay, I returned to the room after being gone all day and found that the lampshade for the floor lamp was suddenly missing. Huh???? Weird....was there a lampshade emergency in a nearby room? I went downstairs to tell the front desk (didn't want to be charged for a missing one). When I returned from dinner, it was replaced, which was nice, but I am still curious as to why it went missing in the first place.
At this point, the cons are about matching up with the pros. The only thing keeping me going back is the amazing restaurant/bar/parking staff. They are all familiar faces who greet me warmly every time I am there, as opposed to the front desk staff who all have this vacant look to them. Special mention should be made to room service servers Hilda and Antonio, waiter Salvador, Raphael the bartender and Julie the parking attendant. Without fail, they are always warm, welcoming and provide excellent service.
Its clear there has been some sort of change for the worse. When these wonderful service people are no longer there, this place will likely lose my business, unless, of course, they earn their third strike before then.....
