A few days before our arrival, I received a phone call from a Hotel representative checking to confirm my reservation and to see if I Had any special request, extra towels, high floor, extra blankets, and early check-in. All request were met except for the early check-in. Had to wait 45 min. This Hotel is very nice and clean. The front desk staff, cleaning staff and breakfast staff all very nice and helpful. After a long day on the soccer field, it was nice to have the DVD player to relax and watch movies. We had a DKS, with turn down service Awesome! The breakfast area is small, fake eggs, pets are my only dislikes. A few blocks away, there is an outlet mall, restaurants, Costco and beach.

Room tip: High floor, walk-in shower, a room away from train tracks.

My husband and I own a local Carlsbad business and have used the West many times for out of town guests as well as personally when we need to stay close to the office. They are pet friendly which sometimes scares me, however, the rooms are always clean and fresh when we arrive.

The staff is friendly and helpful and the beds are super comfortable.

Their daily breakfast is perfect. When you travel, breakfast can add up quickly, and their hot breakfast is the perfect start to the day.

If you are in the mood, they have a first rate Steak House right in the parking lot, or a more casual Bistro that is in the parking lot - both owned by West - and both very good.

I always recommend the West!

Room tip: Pet friendly. Ask for a room on the lower level if you have a pet so you can get outside quickly. Also, the pool is small, however you are less than a mile from the beach. Legoland is just a couple of miles away.

We took our children to Legoland and opted to stay at West Inn due to its nice rooms, proximity to Legoland and beaches, and free breakfast. We have stayed here many times before and always liked it but the free breakfast has degenerated into an inedible cattle call. If you are lucky to get a table amid the crush of people you will endure the worst imaginable scrambled eggs, a few scraps of mediocre bacon, a paltry selection of cereals (nothing kid-friendly), and a pile of trays and dirty dishes. There seemed to be one very hard working but overwhelmed staff member in charge of the entire area, from bringing out food to clearing tables that guests had neglected to clear themselves. After enduring two days of this, I took the kids to the stellar buffet at Park Hyatt Aviara instead. It was well worth the $28 for me since kids eat free and the food and service couldn't be better.

As for the rest of the stay, the rooms are still modern and comfortable but the service wasn't quite as good as when the hotel was in its first few years. The free shuttle to Legoland was great but on one return trip we rushed to meet the van at our chosen time only to have to sit in the hot shuttle for almost 10 minutes while we waited for another family. As it turned out, that family had called and cancelled the ride but the shuttle driver had forgotten her phone and was unaware of the cancellation.

Despite those flaws, we may stay again in the future but there is a new Hyatt House around the corner that looks comfortable and offers the same amenities as West so we may give that a try, or just stay at Aviara but I don't think they offer a shuttle.

My family just got back from a stay at the West Inn and loved it! They did a great job shuttling us to Legoland and providing a good solid breakfast buffet with bacon and eggs each morning. The room was immaculate and lived up to a really high standard. If you have kids, they have step stools in the bathroom and milk and cookies at night. The restaurant has kids meals and delicious appetizers and had a 50% off all wine bottles on Mon nights. There is also a gas station on site that has great snacks. Visit Kings Fish house for a great dinner out which is across from the outlet mall and about a mile away. Perfect time in Carlsbad!

We originally booked the West Inn and Suites because of the great reviews it has on Trip Advisor and because it offers shuttle service to and from Legoland which is about five minutes away. The hotel did not disappoint. We stayed six nights and used the hotel as a base for traveling to various San Diego attractions. The hotel breakfast was great with a variety of both hot and cold offerings. The hotel pool was clean and well-maintained with plenty of towels and a nice jacuzzi. We also ate four times at the on-site restaurant, Bistro West. Even our picky-eater grandson gave it a thumbs-up. The best thing about the West Inn is the service. Everyone on staff is friendly and helpful. They seem to want their guests to have an enjoyable stay.

Room tip: Our room on the third floor faced the pool and trains did go by but we only heard them during the day. The room was very quiet, very large, and clean with two King beds.
