The sign outside the Inn boasts "Charming rooms with FIREPLACES". Since the weather was pretty dismal during our stay, I was able to console myself with the knowledge that at least we'd have a romantic fireplace to keep us warm and toasty. The advertised fireplace is actually a gas unit which is tied into the thermostat (so, if you need warmth during the night, you'll have to deal with the cracking and popping of the "fireplace" turning off and on all night). We were actually advised about this drawback by the gentleman at the desk who attempted to find a space heater for us (he was unsuccessful but said that he could check with their other properties if we really wanted one...we declined). The fireplace itself was a small flame behind glass that was almost completely opaque. No problem....we decided to go out to the hot tub to warm up. The hot tub/pool was located pretty much right next to Hwy 1, so it didn't exactly cut it in the romance department. Other than these issues, the room was clean and they had a continental breakfast in their lobby (which you can take back to your room or if the weather is nice, you could take across the street to the beach). All said and done, I will probably see what other lodging is available in Cambria next time we go...and will know better than to take "log" fireplace advertisements at face value.
