“One of the best !!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2009

We stayed at the Polcriag Guest house after arriving on the ferry from Stornaway....what a delight the place is. The welcome was warm and genuine. The whole place give an inpression of being loved and cared for. The rooms were very comfortable and very well appointed. At breakfast in a lovely dining area playing softly played scottish music we met a man staying there and fishing in the area...he informed us it was is 10th year there and I can fully understand way...it is a lovely place to stay. The breakfast was well cooked and presented well. We will go back when we are next in that neck of the woods......it certainly is an hidden gem. Thank you

“Full marks.”

Could not have asked for a better B&B. Friendly hosts, excellent food (with Scottish music played quietly while breakfasting) and everything in the room you could need.

  • Liked — comfort of room
  • Disliked — incline and steps

“Peace at Polcraig”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2007

This guest house is set in a quiet spot in the centre of the village,
with plenty of guest parking and about 6 rooms. It also seemed to be about the only place to stay in a very remote part of Scotland. I can't go overboard - it provides a simple, very clean place to stay with ensuite bathroom and decent breakfast without going to lengths that would make it a truly memorable B&B. We stayed 3 nights and had very little contact with the owners, but having said that we didn't have any complaints. £30 per person per night was reasonable enough.

  • Liked — It was very quiet if you want to keep yourself to yourself
  • Disliked — Slight lack of a personal touch

“Excellent throughout.”

The Polcraig had been recommended to us by friends who know the Lochinver area, and our whole experience was excellent.
After telephoning the Polcraig to confirm availability and make a booking we received confirmation of our booking from Cathel MacLeod a short time later by email.
On arrival we were given large, clean and well presented rooms which contained very useful literature about the surrounding area. The owners made themselves readily available to give advice as to places to visit, things to see and also information on local restaurants.
These restaurants were good, however the salmon at breakfast in the Polcraig the following morning was excellent and far better than we have had expected. It was in fact the best breakfast we had during our tour of northern Scotland.
In all this was an excellent place to stay - the service throughout was exceptional and on top of that the scenery surrounding Lochinver was spectacular.

  • Liked — Cleanliness, service and especially the breakfast
  • Disliked — Some views blocked be neighbouring trees
