“An Elegant Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2008

We spent four nights enjoying gracious conversations, expansive walled gardens with heritage apple trees, and a great locaion for touring Westmeath and Meath. The O’Haras are most friendly and attentive hosts. We were provided with a lovely room and furnishings, local lore, directions, and many worthwhile suggestions. A full Irish breakfast started each day, while candlelit dinners were elegantly prepared and presented. Desserts, including ice creams were all homemade. The house was filled with books of local interest, as well as many family photographs. Be sure to tour Mullingar, Belvedere House and Gardens, Trim Castle, and the local pub in Crookedwood.

“peaceful, restful stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2008

We stayed for one night on the way to a wedding mid week.

We were the only guests. We were made to feel welcome, and the hosts chatted to us. The house is in a very peaceful location with a short walk to a lake (walking boots are recommended).

We chose to eat at the house and thought the food was excellent.

We particulary liked the view from our window, the open fire and the set of encylopedias. It was refreshing not to have a TV>

My husband and I stayed here for one night at the end of a three week trip to Ireland. It was one of the most peaceful and inviting places we have every stayed. The home, the setting and meals were outstanding as were the delightful hosts. We stayed in a large room at the front the house with lovely views and a very large bathroom.

“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2008

Mr. Ohara is a truly wonderful host. We stayed here the first and last nights of our trip, and he was very helpful with getting us started out. The house, rooms, and grounds are very nice, and the breakfasts could not be better. Such a quiet, beautiful country settling.

“Stepped back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2008

Usually when I arriave at a hotel, I throw in my bag and decide where to go for the afternoon. At Mornington, I threw in my bag and wanted to go nowhere else.

It is a comfortable home with a welcoming atmosphere. It's also 'old world', but carpets and other furnishings there since the 1800s. Most importantly, there are no televisions in the rooms or communal areas, so it's easy to think you're back in the 1930s.

Advice:
1. Get a good map and good directions, as Mornington can be difficult to find.
2. Make sure they are serving dinner the nights you're there. It completes the experience to dine there, rather than leave the environs and be plunged back into the 21st century.
