My family and I went to Hotel Mirador de Samara during New Years. If you visit Hotel Mirador it will be the worst experience you'll have in Costa Rica! The grounds were concrete with a thick coat of dust, the sheets were tattered and were a mouse grey color with a musty scent. It had a great location, just blocks away from the beach but had endless swarms of Mosquitos. The view was also great but had two telephone poles in the way. Our shower wouldn't run and the floor was caved in under the faucet. The fridge had rotten food left in it from the most recent stay. We had to keep our kids off of the deck because it was a straight drop to the streets. The white pillars on the deck were brown from the thousands of of ants crawling up and down. The pool was about four feet deep, but it was so dirty we couldn't see the bottom. The last thing is the security is terrible! Some rooms don't even have a single lock on their door! We fled Hotel Mirador right away and decided to stay at "Leyanda" the clean, good quality hotel. I strongly recommend NOT staying at Hotel Mirador de Samara.

I must say that this review is the most strangest that my hotel has received for about 20 years running.
Either this traveler never stayed in the hotel Mirador , and had some information from a third person and mixed true and untrue details together. Or its just a simple way tto try to harm the buisiness
1..The swimming pool is not 4 feet deep as the traveler states, in fact an adult person can not stand in the pool water - its more then 8 feet deep.
2. ..the guest is complaining about some dangerous decks…
There are no decks and there is no street around the hotel or swimming pool. The only street is the main street of Samara far away from the hotel buildings and pool.
3. ....security is terrible! Some rooms don't even have a single lock on the door...
The entrance door has a strong security look., the doors to the terraces with 2 lockers each. Also each unit has a save box.
4. . ...We fled Hotel Mirador right away...
During the period mentioned there was not 1 single person that decided to leave earlier than previously booked. During xmas and new year all bookings that were made long time before,
5. ….We fled Hotel Mirador right away and decided to stay at "Leyanda" the clean, good quality hotel…I never entered this hotel, but I heard that this is a good hotel. The only thing, this hotel is not in Samara or any of the neighbouring beachs , but far away inland that makes you impossible to walk to any beach.
I would advise the reader to scroll down to other letters and comments that were made in the past

We were planning a quick getaway for last New Year´s Eve but we had the problem of not having anyone to take care of our 2 dogs. We remembered then that my brother in law has stayed at this hotel with his Golden Retriever and family and right ahead we reserved our spot.

I must say the hotel is nice: it has a nice view to the beach and is close enough to downtown Samara without being in the very center of town, so you are a walking distance to the beach and groceries, without having all the noise right at your window.

There are no special accomodation for the pets rather than being with you on the same room, but the property is big and there is place for them to make the physical needs. Besides Max, the owner is kind and does not bother customer for dog related issues :)

We paid about $150 for 2 nights in a room, which considering it was New Year´s Eve, was not expensive at all.

My wife and I began our honeymoon in Sámara and were blown away by the view at this hotel. Rustic, and literally no a/c, but the proprietor, Max, was awesome and the view was stunning. Minutes walk from the beaches/town/shops/etc. Super low-key, unfortunately being a northerner (Minnesota) I needed a/c, but if you want adventure, this is the place to go. Google map it before u leave, because it is extremely east to miss!

We stayed at the Mirador de Samara for one week and enjoyed it. Apartment is great with a million dollar view of the bay from our very spacious deck. No mosquitos and a pleasure to sit outside in the evening.
Pool area was a bit disappointing with not much shade but, hey, there is 5kms of beautiful sandy beach only five minutes away. Yes, the grounds are dry but it is the "dry" season and Costa Ricans are into conserving water.
The climb up to our apartment was considerable but we are two seniors (75 & 69) and it gets easier every day. Lighting is not great on the steps but we always carry a flashlight for walking at night.
Max, the owner, lives on the premises and takes pride in his property. He was always pleasant and helpful.
Don't be afraid to stay here. Location is the best and the deck always has a cool breeze.

Me and my friend stayed in the Mirador for three and a half weeks during our 2 month trip to central america. We loved it, the place, the location and the rooms. We stayed both in a sky room and a bigger apartment with a kitchen and living area.
Peaceful and quiet, but still 3 minutes to the beach and main street. A nice pool, wich we almost always had for our selves. A huge balcony with chairs and a big table, and a beatiful view. Yes, there are 2 celltowers, but don't we want our cellphones to work???
l wouldn't stay anywhere else if l go back to Samara.
And yes, there are a lot of steps to get up to the buildings, but that's why you have a beatiful view, and it's good exercice for the legs:)
