Casa do Amarelindo is a lovely small hotel located on a pedestrian street just a block or so from the central square of the Pelourinho, the old historic quarter of Salvador. We had a luxury room, which included a huge and wonderfully comfortable bed (bigger than a king size, four people could sleep in it), a well-appointed bath with jacuzzi tub and dual sinks, and a view out over the lower city and the harbor. The view had a downside in that much of what you can see in the lower city is decayed, empty commercial buildings. The hotel has a small lobby opening right into the street, a breakfast/dining area, a very small pool, and a pleasant rooftop patio where drinks and tapas can be had from 4 PM on - with, however, the same less than inspiring view of the lower city.
Breakfast was tasty and included most everything you would expect in Brazil, but there is no variation day-to-day, and there didn't seem to be a choice (e.g. could I have an omelet in place of the scrambled eggs?). The tables are tiny and the server brings you the entire breakfast almost all at once, so two people wind up with over a dozen dishes on the table simultaneously. The hotel could plan this better.
The desk staff was excellent (in particular, thank you Gustavo for all your help) and the barman at the rooftop bar was good. The breakfast server was a bit on the robotic side. With the exception of the desk staff, no one spoke other than Portuguese.
We had the hotel pick us up at the airport and we recommend this. The car did not drive down the pedestrian street to the hotel, but the driver called the hotel from the square and a hotel employee came out to the square, identified himself as a hotel employee, and took our bags to the hotel about a block away. The street the hotel is on is quite active during the day and evening, is well lit at night, and there was an obvious police presence any time we went out, which was up to about 9 PM.
All in all, the quality and location of the hotel added substantially to our enjoyment of Salvador.
