We stayed at the Club Hotel Flora for a week at the end of September and overall it was pretty good. When we arrived the hotel was full so we got put into a suite! Being a suite it was a good size, and had a big balcony. The bathroom was big too, with a jacuzzi bath. Sounds good but it was actutally a bit passed it's best. Although it was clean, the grouting was discoloured, and the seal around the sink had gone. The room was the same. It was clean, but just needed a bit of a revamp. The paintwork was tatty, and the plug socket loose. Little things like that. We did have a double duvet though which was lucky by the sounds of it! The aircon in the room worked perfectly. The room was cleaned and the towels changed everyday, but sometimes not until 5pm so bare it in mind if you fancy a disco nap before dinner.
The food was distinctly average. It wasn't horrific, so we didn't starve but it wasn't great. Breakfast was your typical holiday buffet with cold meats, cheese and bread; with sausage and scrambled or boiled eggs. Lunch was some sort of meat stew with chips or rice and dinner the same. I will say though that there was always loads of lovely fresh salads, and couscous, cold meats and bread, so if you didn't fancy the hot (well luke warm) buffet you could always stick to the cold stuff. I think the main feeling in the dining room was that people were there because they needed to eat and not to enjoy a nice meal. There was wine available with dinner, but you could strip paint with it so be warned!
The bar by the pool was great. The beer was cold and the spirits STRONG, I had to ask them to make my G & T weaker. The two lads behind the bar were really great. They worked really hard and we're super cheerful all the time. The bar shuts bang on 11 though, so if you want a late drink you'll have to head to Gumbet centre (a few mins walk) where there are many many to choose from.
The grounds and pool areas were really lovely. You have to be really on the ball for a sunbed, but there were plently of cushions to lounge on to if you didn't get one. The pool area was always kept really clean, the spa also looked really nice although we didn't have any treatments as they are a bit pricey.
The location of the hotel was great. it was just on the end of the bay, so it's far enough away from bar street and the centre to get some sleep, but close enough so that you can walk to the action easily.
The beach at the front of the hotel was crap, but if you just walk around the bay a little there are a million beach bars to choose from and they all have free sunbeds if you buy a drink. I have to recommend Cozy bar. They have a lovely bit of the beach and really nice cushions to lounge on.
One of the worst things about the hotel was the daily visit from the owner of the Tempo restaurant. Everyday he came around to hassle us to go and try his place, we said we would, but then a couple of other guests said not to bother as it wasn't great, so we didn't go and he got really arsey with us when we said it was our last day and we weren't going.
Overall i'd say the hotel was average. The lovely pool area and the location were the best bits. The food and the tattiness the worst. We didn't pay a fortune though so I think it was what I expected. I don't think I would stay here again, mainly because I think next time I would go self catering. It's so cheap to eat out (Windy Bay and The Mistral are excellent for steak) I think i'd rather do that.
