I walked into the Hyatt on a Sunday morning and asked what they had available starting that same day. They offered me a Seaview King at a reduced rate, and I am grateful I took it. The hotel, while sleek and efficient is best served for business travelers or people who know exactly what they want from their holiday. I was a woman traveling alone and actually had a lovely time at the Hyatt.
The staff professionalism was superb - better than the holiday resorts elsewhere in KK. I left behind a half-dozen freshly laundered shirts in the closet after check-out, and I returned the next morning where they delivered them in perfect condition. The pool is so-so - a bit deep and you have to go through the restaurant to get there. There are signs up that state the Hyatt is doing renovation (and I believe the pool will be closed some time during August, though the hotel will make arrangements). Internet and laundry were pricy, of course, and I ate at restaurants in the city.
I booked several tours on my own (not through the hotel) and went to the islands by simply walking down to Jesselton Pier and asking for a ticket. The hotel is right in city center, close and convenient for everything. Recommended are the day trip to Mt Kinabalu (and Poring Hot Springs), the Mari Mari Cultural Village, and Tunkul Marine Park. Beware that it rains most afternoons so plan to do most activities in the morning before 3 pm.
Overall, a wonderful stay, and I already have fond memories of the relaxing time I had at the Hyatt in KK.
