“So Much Better than the Le Meridien”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

On a recent reviewing trip to KK we stayed at Both Shangri-la properties, the Le Meridien and the Hyatt whilst in KK. Whilst the Shangri-la properties are in a category of their own, if you want the best value hotel in a great location in downtown KK you cannot go past the Hyatt. The refurbished rooms are very comfortable and the staff is very attentive (far better than the le Merid). We stayed in a new refurb room and whilst I am not a big fan of their new style of room, it was very enjoyable. The room layout will appeal to any astute traveller and they are very warm and spacious.
the restaurant is located beautifully within the atrium of the hotel and the breakfast buffet far surpasses the le Meridien.
If you're staying in downtown KK, make sure its in the Hyatt.

“Great location, lovely room and brilliant value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

We stayed there for two separate nights either side of climbing Kinabalu. The newly renovated rooms are lovely and on our second stay they gave us a sea view room which had gorgeous views and free breakfast. Great value for money, definitely recommend it.

“Professional staff - upgrade to seaview king - excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

I walked into the Hyatt on a Sunday morning and asked what they had available starting that same day. They offered me a Seaview King at a reduced rate, and I am grateful I took it. The hotel, while sleek and efficient is best served for business travelers or people who know exactly what they want from their holiday. I was a woman traveling alone and actually had a lovely time at the Hyatt.

The staff professionalism was superb - better than the holiday resorts elsewhere in KK. I left behind a half-dozen freshly laundered shirts in the closet after check-out, and I returned the next morning where they delivered them in perfect condition. The pool is so-so - a bit deep and you have to go through the restaurant to get there. There are signs up that state the Hyatt is doing renovation (and I believe the pool will be closed some time during August, though the hotel will make arrangements). Internet and laundry were pricy, of course, and I ate at restaurants in the city.

I booked several tours on my own (not through the hotel) and went to the islands by simply walking down to Jesselton Pier and asking for a ticket. The hotel is right in city center, close and convenient for everything. Recommended are the day trip to Mt Kinabalu (and Poring Hot Springs), the Mari Mari Cultural Village, and Tunkul Marine Park. Beware that it rains most afternoons so plan to do most activities in the morning before 3 pm.

Overall, a wonderful stay, and I already have fond memories of the relaxing time I had at the Hyatt in KK.

“SERVICE and LUXURY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

We stayed here on two separate occassions on a recent trip through Sabah. Once we had a seaview room, which has sensational views across the waterfront, and the other time we had a city view room. Both times we received excellent service at check in and all the staff were helpful and courteous. The buffet breakfast was plentiful, varied and of a high quality. As we had to check out very early to catch a flight, the hotel offered to prepare a boxed breakfast. The rooms were spacious and exceptionally clean. The pool area was a great place to cool down or soak up some sun. The location of the hotel is in the centre of the city and all restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance. The markets and shopping malls are also just a short walk away. This is a great place to start or finish any adventure holidays in Sabah.

“Awesome stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

Stayed a week in early July 2010 in two rooms with our teen aged sons in one room and us in another. Had a really terrific time and can't thank the hotel staff enough. Every one of them did all they could to improve our stay. Had two Seaview rooms on the 10th floor which appeared to have been renovated in recent years - nice big rooms with good fittings in which everything worked as it should. Arranged tours from hotel tour desk which were all great and price very competitive with others we priced and in talking to other participants on tours who aften had paid more. could not recommend more highly.
