“A good one night stop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2009

Like others we stopped just one night en route to safari in Tanzania.
I can't fault the hotel on rooms or service. The grounds are very relaxing and varied with sunbeds, a pool and poolside service.
We were kept amused by the antics of hornbilled birds and monkeys in the trees.
Unknown to us the next four hotels we stayed at were superior.
The staff didn't seem to grasp the concept of a quiet drink before dinner and kept asking us to order our food.
Only when we said "We will order at 7.30 did they let us relax" - having said that they were not at all rude - just persistent.
One letdown - on checking out I took my bill away first to quietly check it as the pricing in Tanzanian shillings and US dollars was confusing.
I was heavily overcharged!!
After a debate my bill was reduced from 70+ dolllars to a correct 40+ dollars.

Despite that I would class this as a good stop en route.

“A nice hotel to rest en route to safari”

We stayed in the Dik Dik on our first night of our honeymoon in Tanzania, after an overnight flight from London. We arrived just before lunch and had a warm welcome, were given a cold tea, and shown to our room, whcih had a nive terrace and a hammock to rest in. The room wasa decent size, clean, with a small but clean bathroom and walk in shower (nice and powerful), with toiletries provided. We spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool (didn't go in as it looked like it needed a clean) and had lunch of sandwiches and chips. Bottled water seemed very expensive ($4 a bottle).
We ate in the restuarant in the evening, were served bread and butter, a spinach appetiser, follwed by a delicious veggie gratin for me and a pork dish for my husband. The meal was just short of $50, more than we had expected, but there is nowhere else to go unless you get a taxi into Arusha. The owner introduced himself to use during our meal, which was a nice touch. Breakfast was good, bread, cheese, ham, cereal, and spanish omlette.
Would recommend this hotel an as overnight stopover on the way to safari, if you just want to relax for an afternoon/evening. Any longer and I would recommend staying a bit closer to Arusha.

“great food, and everything works!”

We stayed here as a family on our way to the parks in the north of Tanzania. The hotel is very convenently located between the international airport and Arusha, and is far enough off the road to be lovely and quiet. The rooms are large, clean and most importantly, everything works! (which is rarely true of hotels in TZ) , the grounds are lovely, with a small but deep swimming pool, and the chef serves amazingly good food. It is very nice to stay in a place where it is not over priced or badly run, so thanks to everyone there. The only remotely negaive thing is that the triple room we had is near the kitchen door, and the staff were sometimes a little noisy. The other rooms our family stayed in were much quieter!

  • Liked — The quality, of the rooms, the food and the staff
  • Disliked — the bedrooms are a little plain, a bit more arty stuff would be nice

A good place to stay and relax. Very good food, friendly and efficient staff, magnificent garden and great pool. Rooms are clean and functional but lack the safari style decoration that many places in the area have. No TV. Still recommended!

“Simple but terrific resort”

This is a great place to relax after climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. Quiet, hot showers, beautiful bungalow rooms, great food, excellent staff. It was included in our booking of a Kilimanjaro climb through a local outiftter and the quality of this place was a very pleasant surprise.

No televisions in the rooms. Bring a book.
