We decided on the Premier Inn after reading Tripadvisor reviews, and we definitely recommend this hotel if you are on a self drive. The rate was very reasonable by Dubai standards (we got a last minute deal on Booking.com for USD60 per night), and the room itself was very clean, comfortable and well appointed. We had no trouble checking in after arriving in the wee hours of the morning, and the staff were courteous and helpful.
Our only complaint was that the hot water in the shower never quite got hot enough, but it was a minor blip in an otherwise very pleasent stay. The Dubai Investments Park is a fairly isolated, newish area located a good 20 - 30 minutes drive from Dubai City Centre but as we had rented a car, the distance didn't pose any trouble. In fact, we would highly recommend that you DO hire a car if you want to explore Dubai properly, we found some wonderful vistas of the city just by driving around, and you appreciate the vast, sprawling metropolis all the better. Just note that there are no attractions/sights near the Investments Park, it's just a good, affordable base from which you can travel into Dubai. The hotel also provides a free shuttle service into the city for its guests.
A 2 minute drive from the Premier Inn is a little mall called The Market (right next door to the JW Marriott), and within it was the Choithrams Supermarket which is a great place to stock up with drinks and snacks, or even to shop for breakfast items if you dont fancy having a hotel breakfast. The Market also has about 10 different F&B options, we tried the Lebanese outlet which was slightly expensive, but with large portions and fairly tasty grub.
