Hotel is located in a residential area of Podil, which is quite nice and quiet, although most of the building are a bit outdated. It's a 2 minute walk from subway "Kontraktova Plosha" - two stops from the historic center (Maydan Nezalezhnosty - The Independence Square, and Hreschatyk - the main Kiev street). You can also take a short walk to the funiculaire that takes you up to the higher part of the town - Andreevsky Spusk - St. Andrew's Descent (a scenic view, highly recommended).
Rooms are small to medium in size, 3* of European standards. All with AC and mini-fridge, a few euro TV-channels to keep up with the news. Free Wi-Fi.
Staff is well-trained - a rare thing in Eastern Europe. Speaks mostly Russian and English. They have some pictures with famous guests on the wall, guys like Pierre Richard and others also stayed here.
For those who wants to be closer to Kiev's nightlife, I would recommend hotels in Hreschatik area (Pushkinska and Gorodetskogo streets, Shevchenko boulevard).
"Pervak" restaurant on the corner of L'va Tolstogo and Shota Rustaveli streets is absolutely recommended to make yourself familiar with traditional ukrainian high-class cuisine. For some light salads, fresh kiwi juices and desserts - visit "Antresol" caffee on Shevchenko boulevard (next to "Lva Tolstogo" subway station) or open terrace restaurants on the adjoining Pushkinska street.
