I returned the Grand Hyatt Washington Hyatt for the 5th time after not going to Washington for a few years. Although this hotel used to be on my list of favorites the staff of this hotel has taken to the bottom of my list!
When I arrived at the hotel I used the self-service check in kiosk and check in went very smoothly. However after checking in I noticed that the hotel placed a $202.00 hold on my credit card for an $87.00 room(AAA rate). I realize that hotels place holds on CC for room plus incidentials but I would think that 120 dollars is a bit much of a hold. Secondly my Gold Passport profiles has as one of my preferences a quiet room. I was place in a very nice room, but right next to the Ice Machine on the 8th floor. I didnt think this was going to be a big deal until that evening when all night long every guest in the hotel must have utilized that Ice Machine to fill coolers etc., I heard some pretty interesting conversations and screaming kids, people knocking on my door , all sorts of stuff. As it was late and I was in the hotel for one night, I did not try to get moved. The bathroom is either showing its age or lack of maintenance, the shower although having great pressure the shower head just dangled from the wall and basically shot straight down towards the drain, versus out towards the back of the tub. The drain must have been clogged because after a short shower, I was wading in about 2 inches of water. I complained about this at check out and my breakfast was taken off my bill. I asked to have my room turned down, but apparently the front desk forget to tell housekeeping. I asked to check out later, but my request could not be accomodated.
When I checked out I accidently left some personal items in the room. I called to track them down and was told the hotel would call me back. I waited a few days, called the hotel back spoke with Guest Services who checked a log and told me that my items had been recovered. I was then transferred to Housekeeping to arrange for shipment of the items but got voice mail. I left a message, only to be called 1/2 an hour later to be told that my items had NOT been recovered. I called Guest Services again and asked to speak to a manager, I was transferred to the Manager on Duty who is either not existant or the busiest person in Washington D.C., after 2 voice mail messages I have yet to receive a response. I did however receive a call from Housekeeping today, and told that my items had been found. I was advised to call them with an address as well as a credit card to arrange for return shipping. One of my lost items was a prescription that after being told was not found I had to have refilled at a cost of $61.00. I called Housekeeping to arrange shipping but again voicemail so now I am awaiting a return call from them.
Upon review of my credit card activity this morning I noticed that the Hyatt has yet to release the authorization on my CC although my CC has been billed. I contacted Guest Services about this and was connected to yet another Voicemail.
So now I am patiently waiting for 3 return calls from the Hyatt!!
As I stated previously I have stayed at this Hyatt numerous times when I have gone to Washington. In the past my stays have been nothing sort of spectacular, but this stay just stunk. The hotel is great, the facility is wonderful, and the location cannot be beat. Apparently though my issue is with the staff!!
I hate to say that I would not recommend this hotel to a friend, but after this experience, I dont think I can!
I'm hoping that someone from the hotel contacts me!
