“Way too many mistaks for 4 star hotel!”

I am a fairmont premier member and planned a quick wknd getaway for my cousin and I using my stay 2 nights get 1 free certificate and suite upgrade certificate. I was placed in the Captiol hill suite, which was "nice" (not as nice as grand as the suites @ the W hotel in DC or even my timeshare in Alexandria, Va). The Hotel is beautiful and the spa and fitness center is way above average.

My experience was above average until the last day when my ceiling had a major leak and a mini flood in my hallway (Im assuming they gave me a Capitol hill suite that was bit older/rundwown than some of the others since I didn't pay much for the room and was getting a comp. night and upgrade). During my stay, the staff made many errors,
my electronic certificates were redeemed incorrectly several times, first my dining certificate was redeemed instead of my comp. night. My guest credit card was used during checkin, when she requested my card on file be used, but was told it wasn't going through, only to have my credit card on file charged for the stay upon checkout. Which I didn't mind but it was unfair to hold the hotel stay amount on my guest's credit card. I made a call to the manager who attempted to be sincere, but when I mentioned my great experience in Bermuda he defensively replied something like 'we can't give you the beach'.

The service by the wait staff in the lounge area was below average, which I really did not care since we just decided to have cocktails elsewhere. Im writing this review today because I just discovered that my $25 dining certificates for 2011 were redeemed instead of my 2010 dining certificates. I mean how many errors can this hotel make!

The upside was the front desk was extremely helpful and managed to fix the majority of the problems I was having, the concierge and the dining room waiter was also helpful.

I experienced way too many mistakes for such a short weekend getaway and will not be staying at the Fairmont DC again!

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2010

It's not in the center, but it's the best.
It's in Foggy Bottom, near Georgetown, just a 10 minutes walk.
The room's are well decorated, in classic style with lots of space, clean and comfortable.
Sleeping there was like sleeping in a cloud.

Hotel is beautiful and rooms are updated with new furniture. However there are small issues that a $350+/night hotel should not miss. We were on a business trip and my comments were shared by others so this is not unique to my room. The thermostat is impossibile to contol. When I checked in the room was cold but the thermostat was set to 70. Had to raise it to 75 to get any heat. Then in the middle of the I woke up in a sweat. Turned the setting back to 70 but when I got up to shower at 6 AM it was too cold and had to turn it up to 75 and wait 30 minutes. The next night I thought I would be smart and turned the setting back to 70 before bed. Guess what? Still was awakend in the middle of the night due to the heat and again it was cold by morning. Then when I went to take a shower I had to turn the setting to the hottest setting and the water was just warm enough but I would have preferred it to be hotter. Lastly I had tissues in the box but after the first night cleaning the silver box was still there but someone had removed the tissues! Room service was fast and they give you a time (7:15 I was told) and it came on time but the soup was cold. At a discounted rate of $220 midweek it was a good deal for a business meeting but you have to be crazy to spend the regular rate and pay for it yourself for poor temperature contol. And finally it was nice to have a large flat screen TV but it is worthless not having it hooked up to digital HDTV. But this is true of most hotels that use a separate TV system for local hotel info, movie rental etc. It seems these companies have not upgraded to digital and still provide TV in analog which makes watching TV worse than had they left in the old tube TV. So the TV reception was fuzzy

“An amazing hotel, where the business travel is treated like family!”

I travel several times a week. I am a Fairmont Presidents Club member and often stay at Fairmont Hotels. Their quality vary from city to city. But the Washington DC Fairmont is exceptional. I am writing this review to explain how they went above and beyond exceptional this past week. I had arrived in DC after five weeks of non-stop traveling and was promptly hit with the deadly flu that has been going around. I managed to complete my first day's meetings and was a wreck the second day. When the room service operator heard my laryngitis, she send up a complimentary pot of peppermint tea. The concierge sent someone to pick up my prescriptions and security walked my chinese food order up to my room to avoid my having to leave my room.
The word had spread that I was under the weather and everyone offered sympathy and help. I have never been this sick on the road alone before. The blizzard was approaching rapidly, and they made sure I got out in time ot make the last train available.
I run WiredSafety, the charity that protects everyone online from consumer fraud and scams, as well as the rest of the common cybersafety risks. For this reason, I rarely comment online, fearing it could be seen as an endorsement.
But to keep quiet about this extraordinary hotel and their amazing staff and management would be a sin.
So, book early and often. But if you are visiting DC for business or pleasure, try them out. You
ll become a regular.

“Excellent Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2010

We stayed at the Fairmont in mid December. We had stayed at the Omni shoreham previously but wanted to be closer the Georgetown. This hotel is in the perfect location and we had an extra free night and breakfast included which I think was a pre-Christmas offer. We booked through British Airways and thought the flight plus hotel rate was excellent. There is about a 5 minute walk to Georgetown and maybe a bit further to the metro station at the University. This provides an excellent link to the main areas around The Mall.

Cannot fault the hotel. Good size room (slightly smaller than the Omni) but much bigger bathroom. Everything worked well, comfortable beds, and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast just perfect for us and with an overnight flight home, we made the most of our stay. It snowed the day after we left - it made the news in the UK! The Christmas decorations at the hotel were beautiful and the bar area was quite lively, although as I had my teenage daughters with me, I did not actually use it. Excellent restaurants in Georgetown however and especially recommend the Ethiopian one which is about the first one you get to when walking into Georgetown from the hotel. Very pleased and if we go to Washington again, would not look for anywhere else.
