We stayed at the Fairmont in mid December. We had stayed at the Omni shoreham previously but wanted to be closer the Georgetown. This hotel is in the perfect location and we had an extra free night and breakfast included which I think was a pre-Christmas offer. We booked through British Airways and thought the flight plus hotel rate was excellent. There is about a 5 minute walk to Georgetown and maybe a bit further to the metro station at the University. This provides an excellent link to the main areas around The Mall.

Cannot fault the hotel. Good size room (slightly smaller than the Omni) but much bigger bathroom. Everything worked well, comfortable beds, and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast just perfect for us and with an overnight flight home, we made the most of our stay. It snowed the day after we left - it made the news in the UK! The Christmas decorations at the hotel were beautiful and the bar area was quite lively, although as I had my teenage daughters with me, I did not actually use it. Excellent restaurants in Georgetown however and especially recommend the Ethiopian one which is about the first one you get to when walking into Georgetown from the hotel. Very pleased and if we go to Washington again, would not look for anywhere else.

Stayed for two nights. Was very impressed at the lobby and the size of the rooms. We got a standard fairmont room and it was huge. Very spacious and comfortable. Location was also a plus since the surrounding area is fairly quiet, but wtill offers many places for food and entertainment. Also visited the spa and enjoyed a great massage. I would highly recomment it. My only negative was our late night room service and the parking fees. The french fries were great, but the pizza tasted like a bad microwave pizza. In addition, the pasta with meat sauce just tasted a bit off. This may have been an isolated experience, however, and with late night room service, i expect that sometimes things can be hit or miss. Parking was $40 a night which i found pretty expensive, but all in all, i really enjoyed this hotel and would definitely stay again.

Make sure you sign up for the Fairmont President's Club too. Free internet, gym access, and other perks.

I have traveled all over the world and must tell you this is a world class hotel . I had some of the best service that I have ever had anywhere. My family and Dog were treated like royalty. Gym, Pool and Lobby and coutyard were just great. The location of this hotel is perfect to sightsee, shop etc. I am getting ready to book it and go again

The room was booked using a low 'family & friends' rate. The per night room rack rate was an eye watering $849. Even at half the price I would not think it good value.

Overall I had a good stay and would consider staying again. My comments below reflect my actual experience compared to the image this hotel portrays.

I stayed for 3 nights in October in a room on the 10th floor as far away from the lift as possible. The view was nothing to write home about but there was a lot of natural light.

The room was a good size but I found some of the furniture and fittings were outdated and shabby-looking. The bed was large and comfortable.

Overall the room was clean but it's clear they skirt around the furniture. I moved the ottoman in the room so I could sit in the chair to discover a penny and a dried out piece of apple core under the ottoman.

I ordered room service several times. The servers were friendly, the food fine but the first time I called I was transferred twice and my call had cut out once before I got through to anyone.

I've noticed that more and more hotels are removing items from rooms they once provided – for example sewing kits, shoes polishing cloths etc. I can live without these but I found it bizarre that there was not one pen in the entire room. Writing materials yes, pen no. I had my own but it's the lack of attention to detail that is obvious.
