I came to D.C. on business and there were several experiences that struck me as odd that prevent me from giving it a 5-stars.
1) The hotel entrance has 5-7 steps going down to the main lobby -- and no one helped me with my luggage. Yes, I'm healthy and I can bring my own luggage down, it's just disconcerting to see no bellhop help you with all your luggage down a half-flight of stairs -- not the welcome I expect after getting off a 6-hour flight.
2) No water after 10 pm. This is probably a fluke for the night I stayed there, but they had problems with their boiler and shut off water after 10 pm. The first person I talked to sounded really put out when I asked her when the water would come back on (3 am), the second person was more reasonable. So while I slept in the bed stewing in my own filth, I thought -- if I was attending a meeting I wouldn't want to stay here because I could be all stinky, and if I was here with a significant other, I wouldn't want to stay here because we'd be sharing the same bed. And I was afraid of having to go to the bathroom since I didn't know if it'd flush. Thankfully, water came back on the next morning and I could go to my meeting smelling fresh and clean.
3) Someone entered my room for a turndown .. and left somebody else's conference registration on my desk. Badge and everything. Apparently they got rooms confused. This points again to spotty service.
Other than that, I was really impressed with the room -- it was clean, the bed super-comfy, the bathroom huge with a separate toilet and bathtub area. Maybe they were having an off-night, but those stairs at the entrance will always be there and it really got to me that no one offered tohelp.
