My husband and I stayed here for four days in Aug '09. We had a wonder time. The location was great - very close to Union Station and the Capital. We are fairly young and walked almost everywhere (we only used our car one day to travel to the National Arboretum and Mount Vernon). There is a Metro station at Union Station which can bring you to most of the hot spots.
The hotel was very nice (trendy style) and our room was nice and very clean. My husband thought the room was a little small for a "four star" hotel, but I was pleased with the room. The hotel has about four different types pillows you can request from the front desk, so I got to have a memory foam pillow for a week. The only problem I found with the room was the firehouse next door meant there where many sirens during the night (not loud enough to wake you, but could make it hard to fall a sleep). I felt safe walking around the neighborhood with my husband (though I wouldn't have walked alone). I was a little worried about the liquor store on the corner, but we had no problems besides people asking us for money around Union Station.
The hotel charges for internet and there is no coffee or fridge in the room. The rate to park in the hotel was outrageous - $40/day (they only allow valet parking) but we parked in a garage on E (just around the corner) for about $20/day.
The pool area was beautiful and there was even a lifeguard duty, but on Sunday when we checked in the there was a weekly pool party going on. It was free to guests, but it lead to the lobby and front of the hotel being filled with very drunk, half dressed hipsters. The rest of the week the hotel was much calmer with business people and families. The restaurant in the hotel was the best we ate at in DC. I would definitely recommend the hotel and stay again.
