I travelled to this hotel in April 2011 with 3 girlfriends (ages 25-38). The flight there was great from northern canada, no complaints. We had an easy checkin, good rooms, a little far from the beach but great for being close to the lobby and nice and quiet. The rooms were your basic all-inclusive room, 2 beds and a bath, they stocked it daily for water and pop and beer.
The food was alright, the buffet was hit and miss depending on the day. Sometimes there was a tons of fresh food and sometimes it was all mushy and old. The restaurants were really disappointing, we went to make reservations and there were none available, they only open one restaurant a night and are very understaffed. We ate at the asian restaurant and I think the fish soup was the same as the bisque the next night for italian.... not very exciting or tasty. The best food was the lunch pizza through the path by the beach, it's made to order and very good.
The beach was beautiful in front of the resort, but don't wander too far, we came across a homeless woman and her child who was blowing up a "balloon" condom that he found washed up on the beach....
We did the snorkel excursion, and it was amazing, we had a whole 40 person catamaran for just 10 people, the fish were brilliant and plentiful and the water was crystal clear.
The disco was fun, it was full of white canadian girls busting a move, but for us it was a great time had by all.
The bars were very understaffed, especially at the pool bar, they only had one person and it could take up to an hour to get a drink, didn't matter how much you tipped. We loved the champagne and a nice person at the front lobby helped us get a couple bottles to drink so that we wouldn't have to keep coming back up.
There were sooooooo many stairs, if you forgot something in your room, forget about it, it'll take you an hour to get up the stairs to get it. the stairs made the pool neat to look at, but impractible to use, there were too many little pools on many levels with no bar or shade. and the little pool with the bar you couldn't even get to pool where all the activities were, very weird setup.
I'd recommend this for friends, but not for families with young childen or couples looking for romance.
