“Worst "serviced" apartments I have ever stayed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2008

This place was a serious disappointment, they have a nice flash looking website but the apartment we had was nowhere near worth the $225NZ per night we paid.
We had booked a two bedroom serviced apartment for four people for two nights.
Our apartment was the size of a shoe box and was not even equipped for four people, there was a small table (which took up half the apartment) with three chairs and a couch for two small people, if we had wanted to have a meal there we would have had to take turns using cutlery and plates!
One of the bedrooms did not even have a window and the other over looked an ally.
When we checked in, the unfriendly receptionist told us that they don’t service the apartments on the weekends!
Altogether the nauseating stench in the corridors summed up the experience.

“We walked out .....”

We booked this hotel from their website which looks lovely but when we arrived (my husband and I)we were in for a shock. The rooms are so tiny they barely fit a double bed. I'm talking really small. Although it is fairly new, the furniture and fittings are cheap and shabby looking. The location is reasonably ok, but the building is a small hotel wedged in between highrises so you never see the sun. There is constant dark shadows at all times. It's cold, creepy and uninviting. We actually didn't stay the night, It was so horrible we left after half an hour and forfitted one nights accommodation. There is also very limited parking, you need to pay the hotel next door to park your car there. Would not recommend this hotel at all.

“Small but well-positioned”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2008

We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment for 3 nights. It was relatively small for an apartment but adequately furnished and clean. It was well-positioned for sight-seeing on foot in Wellington and close to a good supermarket, restaurants etc. You need to be fit to stay there as there is a stiff climb back to the hotel from the city. The last minute price through Rates To Go was $115NZ per night....very reasonable. Parking was available at $12NZ extra per night. The apartment could have done with some extra hooks/shelves in the bathroom but the kitchen was well-equipped and there was a washing machine provided. Good value!

“Awful place - Worst Manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2008

I stayed for at Quest on Gilmer for 3 months from Dec 2007-Feb 2008 and had to undergo the worst experience of my life.

I am seriously thinking of writing to Qualmark authorities not to misguide the general public into thinking that this property can provide 4 star comfort.

It is more of a few hostel rooms renovated and given the FALSE look & feel of a serviced apartment.

This property, unfornately, has the worst manager who lacks clarity of thought and thinking.

I requested my room to be serviced several times, but he refused saying that the cleaners do not work on weekends. Even on regular weekdays, they did not clean the apartment every week. It was more like asking for a favour rather availing of service.

The rooms were size of a pigeon hole and lacked proper showers. The washer dryer did not function properly. The fixtures were very poor quality.

This property is more like some warehouse converted to a serviced apartment - there is a car park opposite - windows are like those found in basements of apartments - this apartment is built on a sloping road - hence no views.

The curtains did not cover the windows properly. The furniture was arranged without any logic - sofa not facing TV.

The worst part of this the arrogant attitude of the entire staff led by a worst manager one can come across. He charged me extra cleaning fee- when it was their responsibilty to clean the apartment every week.

I had always previously enjoyed staying in quest apartments and had a nice impression about them.

This property should rather be named Quest on Dumpster - how this property can be rated as four star baffles my mind.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!

“we did better than other reviewers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2008

We are fans of Quest generally & hope previous reviewers will not be put off trying them again.
We booked through wotif.com and paid about $145 NZ for a large comfortable well appointed room - having been travelling for 4 months we had plenty of luggage.
Very comfy, large bed with good linen
As with most Quest it came with T & Coffee, microwave, toaster, washing machine, iron etc
Bathroom was a good size & the towels a good size & quality.
The internet was cheap in room, a late checkout was no problem, reception staff were friendly & very helpful & it was very good value for money.
We liked the location - quickest way to action was via another hotels lift which stopped aftr 9pm for non residents & so this may put off older guests who dont fancy the walk back up the hill but heh if u get a deal like this a taxi wont break the bank
