“Consistently excellent”

We've been coming to Trean for a number of years and are never disappointed by the welcome (with tea/ coffe and lovely nibbles), the accommodation or the great breakfast (lunch?Forget it! ). Joyce and Mervyn always have time for a chat and we've got to know them over the years. The guest lounge is very comfortable and welcoming, a nice place to end the day with tea/coffe available. The bedrooms are spacious and spotless. There is a lovely garden (see the website) and the location is beautiful, 5 mins walk from the sea and surrounded by fantastic beaches at Kinnagoe bay, Culdaff etc. All in all, a great package - the best reccommendation is that we keep going back every year !

“Awesome B&B!”

We traveled throughout Ireland for almost 3 weeks in June and Trean House was my favorite B&B. Joyce, Mervyn, and their dog Spike are wonderfully welcoming hosts and the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. The house is on a working sheep and cow farm with a view of the ocean. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and immaculately clean with very comfortable beds. There is a well appointed sitting room for guests. Breakfast is delicious complete with homemade soda bread and the most delightful homemade raspberry jam ever. Joyce gave us lots of information on good restaurants and Irish music, history of the area, and sights to see. She was very generous with her time, although I know she must be a very busy lady. A 5 minute walk up the road is the quaint little village of Carrowmenagh with several old thatched roof cottages and a 5 minute walk down the hill is a breathtakingly beautiful beach with sand and rocks to climb on. An absolutely gorgeous area that tourists haven't seemed to catch on to yet. It's quiet enough that you can walk in the road without fearing for your life. I would (and will) go back in a heartbeat. I could have spent my entire trip there at Trean House and would have been very happy. Lambs galore, beautiful flowers, nice people, comfy beds, good food. Trean House has it all for a very reasonable price.

“Beautiful Home, Wonderful Hospitality”

My husband and I stayed at the Trean House in August of 2009, and we hope to stay there again on our next trip to Ireland. We loved it! The owners are very pleasant and hospitable and the home is lovely. Our room was wonderful, as were the breakfasts. The family dog accompanied me on my walks to the nearby beach, and I thoroughly enjoyed his company. The surrounding area is beautiful, and it's not that much of a drive to Malin Head. We truly enjoyed our visit to Donegal and our stay in the Trean House, and would definiitely recommend it to everyone.

Joyce & Mervyn's is a great place to stay, they are so friendly and its just like being at home, the food is first class and we cannot fault it in any way.
Location is excellent with so much scenery and unspoilt countryside, we enjoy the walking especially the coastal walks.

“Worth the trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2009

Inshowen is a long way from anywhere but well worth the trip. After visiting several cities it was a real treat to stay in the most rural area of Ireland. Everything in the two prior reviews by Szebal and Messygirl are completely accurate. This is a beautiful location a stones throw from the rugged Irish coastline, sheep and horses in the local stone fenced fields and views that go on forever. All the local one lane roads are paved, with almost no traffic, so long walks are very enjoyable. Be prepared to wave at everyone who does drive by. Trean House is a great B&B, very comfortable clean and quiet. Joyce and Mervyn are wonderful hosts. They obviously have busy days taking care of the farm and their guests but you would never know it. I never saw them in a hurry, they always seemed to be relaxed and ready for a chat. Joyce even puts up the jams that she serves with breakfast from the berries grown in her garden. Go to Inishowen and stay at Trean house!
