“Fabulous!”

We spent the last 2 days of our trip in Co Sligo. As we were visiting family in Bunnanaddan, we decided to splurge and stay at Temple House; the location could not be more convenient.

It's not often I say something this expensive is a good value but Temple House is worth it. My wife and I had the corner room overlooking the ruins (best room in the house) while our daughter had the adjoining room and we shared a bath. The rooms aren't big... they're HUGE. See pics. Very warm and inviting though. If you've been B&Bing in Ireland at all, you know the bath rooms are classic European i.e. tiny. The tub in our bath room was bigger than the rest of the bath rooms we stayed in put together... almost :-)

I invited my Irish Cousins to join us for dinner. Due to our rushed schedule we made that decision pretty late adding five people to the dinner table. Roderick didn't miss a beat. He couldn't have been more gracious and accommodating.

We enjoyed drinks in sitting room with three other guests and then sat down to what was one of the finest meals I've had in YEARS. I spent 15 years in the USAF and 20 with a major airline. I've traveled the globe and eaten in 5 Star restaurants from Seoul to San Francisco to Paris. The salad was simply the best I've ever tasted. The salmon was absolutely superb (and I don't even like salmon!!!). We enjoyed cheeses and desert while Roderick regaled us with the history of the house and his family.

This is THE don't miss B&B when you visit Ireland, let alone Co Sligo.

“A Magical place -Historic, romantic, scenic, comfortable yet elegant ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

Historic, romantic, scenic, splendid, comfortable yet elegant do not begin to do justice in describing the wonderful ambiance of Temple House. It is a magical place that was by far the highlight of our recent visit to Ireland. My husband, son, daughter-in-law and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the three days we spent with our gracious hosts, Roderick and Helena. Greeted on arrival by the soft baying of sheep in the meadow and welcoming wagging tails of Darcy, Fudge and Treacle, we were immediately made to feel at home. Helena made tea and biscuits and served them in the Morning Room in front of a blazing fire which relaxed us after our long journey from Derry.

Our rooms were incredible. I felt like royalty in the canopy bed, high ceilings and antique furnishings. My son and daughter-in-law loved their room which had a spectacular view of the lake and gardens and fabulous furnishings. Each morning, we woke up to birds chirping, to plenty of hot water in lovely tiled bathrooms, and to a delicious Irish breakfast with Helena’s own home made soda bread served on the family silver in their elegant dining room. One afternoon we walked to the boat house and took one of the row boats out on the lake. Views of the Manor House from the lake were very picturesque. On Roderick’s recommendation the next afternoon we spent at the Irish Raptor Research Center which proved to be an incomparable experience with birds flying right over you head and landing on your arm.

On our second night, dinner was a culinary delight, their French chef, made a mouth watering dinner that we enjoyed along with two couples who joined us from England. After-dinner, drinks by the fire and stimulating conversation with engaging company ended a most enjoyable day. Needless to say with days and evenings of this caliber we did not want to leave. On this trip we stayed at several lovely five star hotels including Ashford Castle and Adare Manor but if I had to choose only one to return to it would be Temple House. On our next visit, we definitely will stay at Temple House and we highly recommend it to all discriminating travelers.

“Gracious Elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2010

I stayed there some years ago when the parents of present man was in charge. Roderick has done great work since then. Fresh unpretensious food ...like you would have at home was great and the one table conversations are what you need on holiday.
He has kept the style and upped the comfort to modern standards! He's a very nice guy to talk to as well!
I recommend this for anyone on road between Galway and Sligolooking for a stopover.

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2010

We just spent a great evening at the Temple House. I was traveling with my husband and two girls (11 and 13). The Temple House was our 'treat' during a one-week tour through various B&B's throughout Ireland. We loved it! You arrive via a long driveway--on all sides were grazing sheep, and because we were there during prime lambing season--dozens of baby lambs. That alone had my girls thrilled about the visit.

Our room was lovely, very spacious, with beautiful furniture, and fascinating antiques--our favorite was the Temple House medicine chest, dating back several hundred years. The girls had a room right off of ours, which was very convenient. The house itself is lovely, with a very comfortable sitting room and a beautiful dining room. We spent the afternoon walking around the grounds. This included a walk up to the lambing shed, where the girls were able to feed a lamb, and could see lambs just hours old playing. We also explored the ruins of a Knights of Templar castle that was right on the grounds--it was fascinating to be able to walk right among the ruins.

We had dinner in the Temple House dining room. The food was wonderful, and we were able to share the experience with a charming French family who was also staying at the property. The cook made a simpler version of our meal for the girls, and they had their own dining table in the kitchen for a more informal meal. The cook was able to accomodate my daughter's allergies without a problem. Breakfast was also terrific.

The owner, Roderick, was charming and very helpful. All of the other staff, especially the women at the lambing shed were very friendly and gracious, quick to offer information, or just answer general questions. I would highly recommend it.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

The lambs are growing quickly and have taken to racing round in swarms of skipping woolly things!

Hope to see you another time.
