“One of the very best in Ireland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2008

I stayed with Margaret in 2007 as well and was more than happy to stay there again this year when the Traditional Music Festval for Munster was held there. (The Fleadh). As previously, the room was well adequate for a single traveller, and I didn't mind the view of the car park! Kenmare is a lovely place to stay and Margaret is a superb hostess and great to chat to.
Sadly, Ireland's overall economy is well overheated and value for money is not as good as it was a few years ago. Nonetheless, if I were to be visiting Ireland again, Riverville House is where I would stay. The rooms are clean, the food is brilliant the welcome as warm as ever. Go there - you will not be disappointed!

Two years ago I stayed with Margaret at Riverville House. I enjoyed the stay so much that my friend and I booked another night this fall, while driving the Beara Peninsula. Margaret is absolutely a gem, and her home is lovely and spotless. The surroundings make you feel like you have just come home. Give yourself a treat, and stay at Riverville while in Kenmare.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2008

We stayed for 2 nights with Margaret and Fergus at Riverville House and had a pleasant stay. The house is well located, only a few minutes walk from town, but very quietly situated. We were offered tea and biscuits when we arrived, and they will make you a pot of tea on request, as there are no facilities to make drinks in the rooms. Our room was a good size, but didn't have much of a view. I believe those at the front have good views. The bathrooms are compact but have all you need. There are no TVs in the room which didn't bother us, but might not suit everyone. You can access the internet and your emails on the computer in the sitting room , where a television is also availabe. Breakfast was very nice indeed,(Fergus is a trained chef) and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. We know the area well, so didn't need advice on things to do, but we did get some suggestions on places to eat in town which were useful. We would stay here again.

“Excellent choice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2008

After checking your travellers' reviews for Kenmare B&B's, we booked our group of six (all in our 60's) in for a stay of four days at Riverville House. The contact by email was very efficient and our host, Margaret, answered our questions promptly and accurately.

Riverville House is about 5 minutes walk from the start of the main street in a quiet location. The advantage for car travellers is that it has its own off street parking. [This is quite a plus point, as many of the B&B's in the town do not have their own parking and suggest it is easy to park in the street, which is simply not so. We came across several visitors who had experienced real parking problems staying at in-town accommodation, even when trying to stop to unload their luggage.]

We received a very homely welcome with light refreshments, even though we arrived later than planned. Our rooms were fresh, spacious and clean, with good sized and comfortable beds. Being 6' 3", I had asked for a long bed and was not disappointed. We all slept very well every night.

En suite facilities were good with powerful showers and plenty of hot water. No tea-making facilities in the rooms, but tea or coffee and hot water were usually available from the kitchen.

The guests' sitting room is comfortable with many books, including travel guides and several on Irish history . A pc was also available with good internet access. Margaret herself made several excellent recommendations for tours and places of special interest.

We could write an essay on Margaret's breakfasts. Not only was the choice better than most hotels, the quantity was sufficient to see us through till dinner time. And any special requests were always readily catered for.

At 70 Euro per room per night, including those breakfasts, there may be cheaper B&B's, but not of this standard. We would thoroughly recommend Riverville House to any similar couples or small groups. It made our stay in Kenmare a really enjoyable visit - and that was despite very poor weather!

“Riverville was wonderful!”

My wife and I stayed at Riverville House 1 night. Margaret, the owner, made us feel welcome. She helped guide us there via phone (we had a hard time finding it) and had tea and snacks for us. She provided suggestions for dinner and places to see in Kenmare.
Our room was an attic conversion; the room was clean and functional. The view (we were on the 2nd floor) overlooking Kenmare was very pretty.
She has beautiful and inviting greenery and flowers around her property and my wife enjoyed spending time with Margaret discussing the various types of flowers and their care.
Breakfast was very good and plentiful.
They have WiFi and provided the password for its use.

  • Liked — View from room; location (could walk to town)
