“Best place to see a bit of authentic Ireland and get authentic gifts made in that area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2010

The owners are fabulous. This is a little tradition irish cottage that about 80% of their items for sale are made locally in that county (the rest is what you would typically find in other gift shops). You can see how a tradition irish farm looks (it's free, with a donation if you feel inspired). Try some of the "bootlegged" Irish Whiskey poitin when you check out (they have it for sale as well). Fabulous place to stop, beautiful scenery! One of my favorite stops of the trip!!!

“Experiencing Irish Heritage like it's your own.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

If you are within a day's drive of Bonane, near Kenmare, in County Kerry, you must not miss the opportunity to visit Molly Gallivan's Cottage and Farm. Molly Gallivan's Farm was restored by owners Stephen (5th generation in the area) and Frances O'Sullivan in the 1990's to it's original working state of the late 19th Century. Tour the farm, view the artifacts, and experience a slice of Irish history that will take you back to the years 3000 BC, the Famine years and the turn of the last century. Upon completing the tour, stop in the cottage, and chat with the owners who are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Enjoy some of the creamiest ice-cream and tastiest vegetable soup every. You must also plan to experience an evening at Molly Gallivan's Cottage. On certain nights, Molly Gallivan's invite you to the traditional "The Homecoming." This is an evening of traditional Irish food, song, dance and storytelling that was thrown for town members upon coming back from the United States. As the evening progresses, you begin to feel more and more like you are apart of the Bonane community...and that you always will be. A fantastic travel back in time. Shuttle buses can also be arranged from the town of Kenmare to take you to and from Molly Gallivan's for the Homecoming evening. Don't miss out on this experience!

“A Trip Back in Time- This should NOT be missed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

This has to be one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland so far. The food was incredible and from the moment we sat foot on the grounds we felt like we had been transported back in time. We felt as if we were truly part of an Irish family 200 years ago. The food, music, and drama was an excellent showing of craftsmanship. Both my husband and I wished the night had gone on longer.

“great stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2010

We stumbled upon this wonderful centre as we were leaving Kenmare and what a fun afternoon it turned out to be. This heritage and cultural centre is a great stop for families or couples (us). The video is a good summary of Molly Gallivan's rural life before the days of electricity or modern conveniences and the tour of the farm gives you a sense of what a hard life that must have been. The hosts are genial and the gift shop is well stocked with some lovely things. We stopped for a spot of tea and coffee and it was the best cup of coffee I had on our trip, not to mention the delicous scones with cream and jam. We would highly recommend making your way to this interesting spot for a fun afternoon of Irish history. The tour of the farm does involve a little bit of a walk uphill.

“An absolute "must see"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2010

There's little I can add to the other positive reviews. Molly's cottage and farm does a truly outstanding (and rare) job of combining history, fun, and education. Everyone in our group (from 11 to 51 years of age) completely enjoyed it.

There is also an excellant selection of local crafts available in the gift shop.
