“Good hotel with only small shortcomings, excellent ski location”

Stayed for 5 days at end of January. Drove to Andorra from Spain and arrived at the tail end of a blizzard which left roads covered with snow on passes leading into Soldeu via Pas de la Casa. Of course it also left ideal ski conditions too. Road clearance of snow excellent and Piste Bashing equally good so skiing top class. I last skied in Soldeu nearly 30 years ago and have done many years since then in Les Trois Vallees, so I was surprised to be so impressed with the skiing on offer.
Now to the Hotel. It is a large hotel and part of the Sport Hotel complex of three Hotels. It is also the cheapest one and does not offer, inclusively, the entry to the Spa or any of the Spa's facilities even though you might think so if you don't read the advertising carefully enough. The Hotel is however connected to the Sport Hermitage which is where the Spa is located by an underground Passage (quite short) whereas the Sport Village is not connected directly and you must go to the spa via the street from that Hotel (A chilly experience if you are only wearing a swim suit and bathrobe)
The Sport Hotel welcomes you with a large Alpine style reception Foyer and capacious lounge. The latter is, despite its warm wooden decor, lacking in warmth and is literally a little cold being affected by heat loss every time the hotel opens its doors. It is, never the less, a relaxing place to sit and offers free Wi Fi connection.
There is bar (more like an alpine pub than an alpine 'stube') and a coffee bar/ cafe each leading off the reception area.
The staff in all these areas are pleasant attentive and efficient.
The rooms are moderate in size but not small and with all you need including a muti channel T.V. with both BBC and CNN news as well as other French Spanish and Andorran channels
The rooms can be too hot but with the rads turned off and the windows opened for a short time they can soon be reduced to a comfortable temperature for those from bedrooms in more northern climes.
The rooms are basically quiet but suffer from doors that need to be slammed to shut them , this did not seem to affect our sleep as even though our neighbours were night owls we only heard the most adjacent doors bang shut late at nigh. On one night there was loud music from the bar and we were 3 floors up and could just hear it. It ended at about midnight.
The Food in the restaurant was very varied and of high quality. Many items from a buffet, so in some cases if you wanted an item from the buffet you would find it not all that hot, additionally the plates provided were not warm. However two or three hot Items were always also on offer to be cooked exactly to order in front of you by a chef. but this did not solve the heat problem with the vegetables
The Desserts and the starters were excellent both in choice and quality and variety
Breakfasts were also excellent.
Overall, I have stayed in better hotels with worse food and worse hotels with better food. This hotel was enjoyable and only needs a few things done to make it a very good hotel with very good food. I would stay there again and so would my wife if we got a similar deal to that which we booked, but otherwise would probably book a smaller more 'cosy' hotel

“Absolutely brilliant week; great food and surroundings.”

Sport hotel is lovely place to stay in Soldeu - comfortable and convivial with great food. Front desk staff very helpful and efficient. Be prepared for a more 'relaxed approach' from bar personnel. Will definitely return.

“May be fine for skiing, not in the summer”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

I wouldn't recommend this hotel in the summer. Our room felt like a hostel, there was no air con it wasn't worth the money. Breakfast was good and that is about it. We have stayed in other hotels in Andorra, including a 3* in Soldeu, and another 4* near Andorra la Vielle and both were far better than this hotel.

“clean, great food, great location...”

It was my first ever ski trip and my boyfriend (an experienced skiier) kept telling me that resorts are not always so lovely and that of all the ones he stayed in accross the 3 valleys in france this was by far the best!
Our food every night was brilliant we had a large selection of fresh fish, meat and poultry with a salad bar. The wines weren't great and the service is a bit variable but the food was great. The breakfasts every morning would set us up nicely for the day.
One of the treat of staying here is that as a guest you get a free pass to use the hermitage facilites for one afternoon, which was a brilliant break from the slopes. We sat in the Jacuzzis one afternoon watching the sun come down over the mountains.
Soldeu is a brilliant resort. There is a good range of shops and the instructors really make the make whole resort a brilliant stay.
The skiing was brilliant and I will definately be going back. Next time I will ask for a room with a balcony though!! our room was a bit small

“Good Choice”

Just arrived back after a week in this hotel, which was our 3rd Soldeu hotel (in 3 years) it was very good and would willingly recommend this to anyone.
Staff (barring one barman) were typical from our experience in Soldeu and lacked any customer skills - you get used to it.
Rooms were fine and had plenty of room for normal as well as ski clothing (although cleaners, as in most hotels, don't clean under the beds - found a £1 not mine though).
Food was a million times better than the other 2 hotels we have stayed in.
Smoking is allowed in the bar area etc which isn't at all pleasant now we have become accustomed to smoke free bars/pubs in the UK.
Do try the free taster at the Wellness Centre, it was great, but do take your flip-flops.
Location was good just above most other places which meant very few revelers pass by at night.
The free boot-room (albeit down a set of stairs) is just across the road and down a bit from the hotel. It is very close to the gondola station which is just a short walk away via the car park tunnel.
