Stayed for 5 days at end of January. Drove to Andorra from Spain and arrived at the tail end of a blizzard which left roads covered with snow on passes leading into Soldeu via Pas de la Casa. Of course it also left ideal ski conditions too. Road clearance of snow excellent and Piste Bashing equally good so skiing top class. I last skied in Soldeu nearly 30 years ago and have done many years since then in Les Trois Vallees, so I was surprised to be so impressed with the skiing on offer.
Now to the Hotel. It is a large hotel and part of the Sport Hotel complex of three Hotels. It is also the cheapest one and does not offer, inclusively, the entry to the Spa or any of the Spa's facilities even though you might think so if you don't read the advertising carefully enough. The Hotel is however connected to the Sport Hermitage which is where the Spa is located by an underground Passage (quite short) whereas the Sport Village is not connected directly and you must go to the spa via the street from that Hotel (A chilly experience if you are only wearing a swim suit and bathrobe)
The Sport Hotel welcomes you with a large Alpine style reception Foyer and capacious lounge. The latter is, despite its warm wooden decor, lacking in warmth and is literally a little cold being affected by heat loss every time the hotel opens its doors. It is, never the less, a relaxing place to sit and offers free Wi Fi connection.
There is bar (more like an alpine pub than an alpine 'stube') and a coffee bar/ cafe each leading off the reception area.
The staff in all these areas are pleasant attentive and efficient.
The rooms are moderate in size but not small and with all you need including a muti channel T.V. with both BBC and CNN news as well as other French Spanish and Andorran channels
The rooms can be too hot but with the rads turned off and the windows opened for a short time they can soon be reduced to a comfortable temperature for those from bedrooms in more northern climes.
The rooms are basically quiet but suffer from doors that need to be slammed to shut them , this did not seem to affect our sleep as even though our neighbours were night owls we only heard the most adjacent doors bang shut late at nigh. On one night there was loud music from the bar and we were 3 floors up and could just hear it. It ended at about midnight.
The Food in the restaurant was very varied and of high quality. Many items from a buffet, so in some cases if you wanted an item from the buffet you would find it not all that hot, additionally the plates provided were not warm. However two or three hot Items were always also on offer to be cooked exactly to order in front of you by a chef. but this did not solve the heat problem with the vegetables
The Desserts and the starters were excellent both in choice and quality and variety
Breakfasts were also excellent.
Overall, I have stayed in better hotels with worse food and worse hotels with better food. This hotel was enjoyable and only needs a few things done to make it a very good hotel with very good food. I would stay there again and so would my wife if we got a similar deal to that which we booked, but otherwise would probably book a smaller more 'cosy' hotel
