“A great hotel”

This was the second hotel we stayed in during our recent trip to Lisbon. We stayed at Hotel Borges for our first three nights and booked the Tivoli as a treat at the end of our holiday, and a wonderful treat it was. The staff were very attentive - the doormen opened our taxi doors almost before it had stopped. We arrived around mid-day and the staff on the reception desk were very helpful. Although check-in was not until after 2pm we given our rooms straight as we were travelling with children. We had two identical interconnecting rooms towards the rea of the main hotel (room 146 and 148). Alhough there was what appeared to be air-conditioning equipment outside our rooms once double glazed windows were closed there was no noticable noise. The rooms were comfortable and of reasonable size and looked as if they were included in the renovation of the hotel which took place in 2008.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel. At €15 per person per day it seemed over priced but, has I didn't try it, it may have been worth it. We did order drinks from room service one evening and they arrived within minutes of us putting the phone down.

The hotel is on on of the main avenues in Lisbon but is not at all noisy. It's a short walk to the nearest underground station and about 10 minutes to the squares and tourist areas.

Although there is no taxi stand nearby getting taxis is not a problem as they regularly drive past the hotel. Our taxi to the airport was less than €10 and took about 15 minutes. This is a wonderful hotel wirh a great lobby and I would happily stay here again.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Checked in but on going to room found a toilet in mid repair. manager apologised. Went out sightseeing but on returning although toilet was functional we found soiled underwear left in the room. Manager apologised.
free drinks in Sky bar are not as presented. drinks are up to 4 times price of other hotels and restaurants let alone bars in the area. You are charged for everything even coffee sachets left in room.

“Casual Luxury & elegance, 5 stars, with pool, location, location, location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

Looked long before booking. Wanted a king bed, pool and close to the tourist sites, and restaurants. Tivoli was outstanding, paid a little more for a king bed and breakfast and got a lot for my money. The rooftop bar offers a great view of Lisbon and should not be missed even if you don't stay at the hotel. Drink prices are urban chic prices but the view and cool vibes make it a must stop before or after dinner.

“Good business hotel with facilities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

Stayed here for a business conference, the hotel caters well for this purpose and is located well in the city center. However the hotel is nothing out of this world and I wouldn't suggest staying here for your private vacation, there are plenty of other cosy boutique hotels in Lisbon.

“classy hotel in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2010

We were picked up from the airport in the hotels own Maserati - what a way to start.
The hotel is in a good location but it is still quite a walk into the city centre (but probably not far enough to take a cab .) It has a very impressive entance leading to a large lobby/bar area with the most comfortable seating known to man. We saw guests asleep here several times. A downside to this large area is that it acts as the hotel bar, and the service was usually painfully slow, apart from when an English woman was on duty when it became very efficient. This really is a problem as we noticed on many ocassions that guests became angry at having to wait to order/receive/pay for their drinks. It is also very expensive but that didn't put us off using it.
On check in the front desk manager kindly upgraded us to a corner suite which was fantastic. We may therefore have a biased opinion of the rooms, although a problem we had was the temperature (or lack of ) the hot water. It was warmish at best. This was our only gripe. Room service was very quick and efficient.
We were not theonly guests who found the lifts a challenge - the lobby and mezzanine levels are not clearly identified and if you use the lifts which service the rooftop bar it becomes even more entertaining.
The breakfast room was delightful and the food on offer was very good with decent though not consistant service. The room doubles as a brasserie with the rooftop restaurant offering finer dining. This for us was a problem, as on a couple of evenings after a long day sightseeing, all we wanted was a simple unpretencious meal. Neither option offered this. The Experience guy was brilliant. Very knowledgeable and helpful, he arranged a private trip to Sintra which is an absolute must do. Not so keen on the reception/concierge desk. We prefer to see a seperate concierge rather than have to wait behind guests checking in or out. Overall, the hotel staff were friendly and welcoming and spoke good english. So, although there were the above little niggles we would definately stay here again. However, and this is something which management must address: the non existent spa.
We were due to visit in 2009 and enquired about the spa only to be told it would open early 2010. It didn't. I saw literature in our room dated 2006 which mentioned the forthcoming spa! The spa is mentioned in literature, around the building etc and on the web site. This is totally misleading and unfair to guests. Either open the spa or remove all mention of it is our suggestion.
Before we checked out I thought I'd be cheeky and ask for the Maserati again and they immediately said yes - what a way to end.
