We wanted to stay in La Cisterna or Leon Bianco, but both were full (even when attempting to book six months in advance) so we stayed at Bel Soggiorno instead - and were not disappointed. We did pay extra for the countryside view room, but I wouldn't bother another time as the same view (and it is wonderful) is available from the breakfast room. Our travelling companions had a street view room and it was very interesting to see the all the street activity. Our room was on the second floor at the end of a corridor, so it was quiet. There is a lift, but a few stairs from the reception area to the lift makes it a bit awkward with luggage. The room was a bit funky, but clean enough. Bed was firm but comfortable. Bathroom amenities limited to soap, shampoo and shower cap - no hairdryer in the bathroom, one is availble from reception on request. There were resident mozzies which attacked us ferociously. Breakfast buffet was good, but the coffee was awful - very weak. View was so wonderful would forgive anything, however. As for parking (which is terrible in San Gimignano) my advice would be to time your arrival for the late afternoon, after the day tourists leave, and before people visit the town for the evening - so you can get a parking spot in the lot closest to the gate (Porta San Giovanni), then you can easily walk in with your luggage. Hotel Bel Soggiorno is close to this city gate. While in San Gimignano, we ate at 'Alla Griglia', 'Il Quattro Gatti' and 'Le Vecchie Mura' and enjoyed all of them, especially the last, with its stunning views from the outdoor terrace. Regretfully we didn't eat at the hotel's restaurant.
