“A Gem away from the busy center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2010

My wife, mother and I stayed at Suite Oriani for four days in June 2010 and I must say that we were very pleased with everything about this place. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. The location is definitely away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist district in Rome, which is exactly what we wanted, but anyone who doesn't mind doing a bit of walking can get to any of the major tourist sites from the hotel. My mother, who is in her 70s and in good physical condition, had no difficulty walking to lovely locations like the Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, etc. We didn't want to be right in the middle of the tourist sites, but we found them very easy to get to from Suite Oriani. We had a lot of fun by just buying an all day bus pass and seeing where they went, which is by far the easiest way of seeing Rome at the street level. We found some really nice restaurants this way. We found the breakfast that is served to you in your room to be very filling and tasty. The hotel is very quiet at night. You may close the window shutters and your room will be completely dark, which is my preference for good sleep. The staff are all very friendly and will help you with any problem that you may have. Do not expect the staff to be waiting at the front desk at all hours. This is not that kind of place. The family who owns the property also live there and they need their time off as well.

The only thing that Suite Oriani lacks is an outdoor sitting area for guests. We solved this problem by using Alessandro's desk on the front porch of hotel where we could drink our wine at night (thanks Alessandro!). He seemed not to mind. It would be nice to have a small table and some chairs somewhere where we could enjoy the evening air.

Prior to our arrival in Rome, we were the victims of a pickpocket in Naples. Some cash and credit cards were liberated from us. I must thank Alessandro for being very helpful by assisting us with closing the credit card accounts. He allowed us to use his cell phone, laptop computer and Skype account to call the US for a problem with adding more minutes to our rented cell phone (Cellular Abroad, which I DO NOT recommend). Alessandro was very patient and kind with us. I can't understand the terrible review that was written by the lady from Ohio. Her review is simply is not accurate.

For those who must remain connected to the Internet, wireless Internet access is available at no additional cost at Suite Oriani.

We enjoyed our meals at Taverna Rossini (www.tavernarossini.it) at 54 Viale G. Rossini (Tel 06 84242903) and also at "La Pariolina" (Alessandro can direct you to this restaurant). There are many more restaurants, but these two places we enjoyed very much.

A final note that is unrelated to Suite Oriani. Having a cell phone in Italy is very helpful, but I found Cellular Abroad to be a ripoff. It cost $125 to rent a phone for 2 weeks. We ran out of minutes during the pickpocket incident and the phone call cut off a just the wrong moment. It was very difficult to add more minutes to the phone, which is why I had to use Alessandro's Skype to call the US. Even the Skype representative had some difficulty adding the minutes. Finally, it cost me $24 dollars to add a balance of 10 Euro to the phone. Do the math if the exchange rate is 1 Euro For $1.25. By my calculation, I should have received about 19 Euro credit, but I only got 10 Euro and the other 9 Euro went to their profit. NICE! Buy a throwaway in Italy or temporarily add international service if you have a GSM phone (CDMA won't work in Italy), but stay away from Cellular Abroad.

Ciao!

So glad we booked at Suite Oriani - from the helpfulness of Allesandro with the booking and reservation of taxis - to the ideal location near the Metro , the quiet area to the lovely breakfast served in the room - fantastic ! Numerous restaurants nearby were also very useful so we could spend the day in Rome come back and change before walking out for dinner.

Our stay was very nice, the room was lovely. Me, my mom and my aunt stayed only the last two days of our trip in Italy. What a pity! We enjoyed the beautiful sorroundings and the ease to go downtown by subway. Alessandro was super and very sweet, he's a lovely person, very helpful and assists everyone with everything.
We would suggest Suite Oriani to everybody and can't wait to come back!!! Thank you Suite Oriani.

“The worst hotel stay I've ever had”

The owner of this establishment, Alessandro, is completely incorrigible and hostile. He threw myself and my elderly traveling companion who has difficulty walking over a miscommunication involving a limo ride w/o regard for our welfare or safety. In addition, he said he would not charge us for our stay but not only did he charge us, he charged us for nights we didn't even stay! He is deviant and salacious and fully untrustworthy. Also it is NOT close to central Rome. It an enormous flight of stairs, a bus ride and a subway ride from central Rome. I advise any traveler to BEWARE!

The Lady has booked a room at the Suite Oriani for three days though venere.com and booked the limousine service from the airport for the day of her arrival, in Rome, from the USA. The Lady, however, left the airport without notifying the driver, neither us, even though she had the phone number of him and our phone numbers.
She reached us by public cab, and in the meanwhile the driver was still at the airport waiting for her; the moment she arrived, I politely asked her the reason for the abandonment of the airport, maybe she had problems to find the driver.. I thought. The Lady turned out to be very hostile at the very first moment; she argued that in the United States is also possible to cancel the booked services at the last moment without any problem, because she changed her mind at the airport, and here we were "back" in Italy if it was not possible to do the same.
I gently pointed out that there is also a limousine service cancellation policy, of which she was aware. Hence the Lady started to raise her voice saying that she was already tired of Italy and Rome and that everybody here was irritating, rude and unpolite.
The next day we called the company that provide the limo service for our guests asking them to give up to ask for what they were right to get, given the Lady sounded a little bit stressed. However the head of the company informed us that it was not possible because of their policy. At that point we communicated back to the Lady the need to honor the commitment and the Lady started to scream against me, offending me and Italy and the italians, even in front of other Guests.
I gave up, and thought to give personally the money to the company providing limo service, because "customer is always right". The penultimate day, reunited for the final payment (even if the check out would have been the next day the Lady wanted to pay the day before), the Lady asked us to book our limousine service for returning to the airport (!!!), but she told me "I don't want to find the same driver because he would put his hands on me since he is italian and angry with me" (...). She looked very nervous and scared.
I tried again to calm down the Lady, and said that there was no reason to be worried about it, and that we italians are civilized and polite... at this point the lady started to raise up again scream against me and offend me again, and she threw violently her bag against the hall table, hitting a precious art nuveau style ashtray bought years ago in Venice, with a value, and shattering it.
I made vain attempts to calm the Lady, I aked her so times not to scream... After a while I felt obliged to ask the Lady to leave the Suite Oriani. I do not report here the threats and screams that were heard not only our by our scared Guests and embarassed employees, but also the entire neighborhood. A Lady living in front of our Villa asked me: "do you need an help? do you want me to call the police?".
The Lady and her family is keeping on offending me, on Facebook, via e-mail and on TripAdvisor. Her family sent me an e-mail on facebook hoping the Suite Oriani to go out of business, and they wished me very bad happenings in my life. The Lady offended me a lot writing the worst things I have never heard and very mean sentences.

Thank you,
Alessandro Scognamiglio

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2009

Suite Oriani was a highlight of my trip to Roma! Clean, fantastic location and in a very nice neighbourhood. Alessandro the owner and Isabella the housekeeper were gracious and wonderful. The underground to get to see the sights and sounds is but a stone throw away and in the evenings, taking a walk to the surrouding orianis restaurants etc that were not all 'touristy' was divine! When in Roma again. Unlike other hotels, the WIFI here is free and we were able to plan via the internet great events for each day. I will be sure to stay at the Suite Oriani again!
