This is the kind of hotel I'm always searching for when I travel: small enough to feel cozy, but professional and big enough where you can ask the desk for help with directions, restaurant suggestions, and tips on things to do. I am also always hunting for that area to stay in that's close to the sights, but not in the main tourist hub. For instance, I live in New York and am baffled that people want to stay anywhere near Times Square...but it seems most tourists stay near there. Instead, I like to find the cute residential neighborhood that's still close to things, and that's what I found at Hotel Trastevere (pronounced tras-TEV-eh-ray).
I was pleased that on our first trip to Italy ever and on the first leg of the trip that we stayed at this hotel. The experience we had at Hotel Trastevere helped set the tone that we'd have a great rest of our trip.
Notes:
-Clean, large room (Room. 13)
-All the fixtures and furniture are very basic, nothing cute or charming to ooh and ahh about, but no big deal (I knew what I was getting from the pictures)
-Our view of the square was indeed a view of the square, but also in my view was the roof of a storage shed that spanned much of the square. Not a dealbreaker...just good to know in advance.
-Amandus was so great. We asked him 20 questions a day and he patiently highlighted our map each time with his multiple highlighters (never seen anyone quite so dedicated to his highlighters...it works.)
-Pain chocolat (and more) for breakfast every morning? Yes, please! Loved that.
-The one down side for me here was that the two twin beds smushed together would not actually stay together.
