“Hotel Cilicia Visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2006

Stayed in the Hotel Cilicia, Rome for the second time. The Hotel is located about half a kilometer from San Giovanni in Laterano and is walking distance to the Metro. Location is off a very busy road but set in a garden area. Reception was warm and staff helpful. Got an upstairs room this time (by request). The room was a non smoking room and was large originally well furnished and decorated but needed many small repairs and maintenance. Bed was comfey & the room quiet (courtyard facing) and the bathroom very nicely done in marble. Continental breakfast was average and the food and juice selection was limited. The dining room itself was nice though. Reasonable rate for a three star hotel in Rome. Good value for money but a little out of the way unless you need to be in this part of the city.

Hotel was light and airy and kept very clean was lovely to come back to air con and shower after hot day walking round sights. Staff friendly and helpful no problems. Brekkie fine We took on board prev comments re long walk to metro station Bus is deffo best bet 360 or 228 from via Satrico takes you to San Giovanni metro We also got buses back to the hotel from all areas and attractions in the city no problems either to piazza Zama or via Latina which is just a short walk from hotel There also a lovely walk to San Sebastian Catacoms from hotel passing Quo Vadis a welcome break from the bustle of the city.

“Very lovely hotel however far from Centre & attractions”

Quite nice hotel, very comfortable, clean, renovated and even with a hint of luxury, located inside a small park with lots of greenery & blossom.
Decent brekker, attentive service, pleasantly furnished rooms with all these plush interiors, I even thought of 4* stars level staying there.
However there's one considerable disadvantage - situated far from Rome centre, so no way to reach attractions by feet and to get nearest metro station takes ~25min if walked very quickly.
Means - always check the city maps before agreeing with your travel agency's choice of hotel!

“Not bad....”

The reception could have been a little more helpful when we were asking information.
And there is an easier way to reach the hotel than the metro. (And that is to use a bus from termini station.)
The breakfast was poor.

The room was very good and clean.

“Decent mid-price hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2005

Stayed here for 5 days in the end of July. This is a mid class hotel with about 40 rooms. The double room we stayed in was small but well equipped and furnished, with controllable AC, cable and a bathroom/shower. Rooms and hotel were very clean, staff speaks reasonable English and was generally helpful. Complimentary breakfast was more than decent, including fresh rolls, coffee, cereal, fruit and bread.

Main disadvantage is the hotel location: although near Rome's center the nearest subway station is about 1.5 kilometers away. There is a bus stop (bus 360) about 100 mtrs down the street, with about 2 busses/hr from Termini (4 kilometers from hotel). If you need to return to the hotel frequently during daytrips I would not recommend this hotel. If you plan to use it for sleeping and breakfast only it's more than fine.

Pro: good value at about 60-70 euro/night for a double, clean and well equipped.
Con: trips to Rome only possible by public transport unless you really like walking.

Alternatives might be hotels in the outer suburbs that are closer to a subway station if you can find one.
