We had a really good experience with this hotel. We had booked our trip (flight and hotel) through Avios (what used to be Airmiles in the UK, which is owned by British Airways) so we didn't have much choice in the selection of hotels, but this one looked fairly central on the map. It is in fact VERY central; only 1 street from the start of the Ramblas and 2 blocks from the Passeig de Gracia which is the main tube/train station. However, it did not feel like a city center hotel in that it was not noisy, even though we had a room facing the street.
The hotel itself was very nicely presented. The staff were friendly and accommodating; we arrived early morning as we'd just come off a cruise ship and they could not check us in yet. However, they took our suitcases for safekeeping. Also, when I said we had a preference for a double room, this was arranged without fuss; despite the fact that they present themselves as a 'business hotel' so they don't have many of them. We ended up with a lovely large corner room on the 5th floor, very spacious with a lobby area with mirror and table (could be used to put your suitcase on), three windows overlooking the street, a seating area; a large bathroom with bath and over-the-bath shower. The room also included a free safe, a desk, and a mini-bar but we didn't use that. The only slight drawback in our room was the bed was quite hard; I don't mind it myself but others might. The general access areas are modern and clean. There is a restaurant and bar on the reception level but I can't comment on those.
Breakfast is a continental buffet breakfast but with some hot items on offer like scrambled eggs and bacon. There was a large selection of cereals, pastries (croissants, donuts, pain au chocolat..) and yogurts; tea, coffee and juice. A good start to the day. Just beware they don't like you taking food out of the room i.e. they don't want you to make yourself a snack or lunch pack with the breakfast items, which is fair enough. The only thing I would say is that I was glad breakfast was included in our rate. If you had to pay for it separately on the day it was EUR17, which I thought was a bit steep. If you book it as soon as you arrive/check in, I believe that rate was reduced to EUR13 per person.
The other facilities you should be aware of are the free jacuzzi, sauna, and gym on the top (7th) floor. This is a nice little bonus on hot summer days! There was a terraced area where you could sit on sun loungers, and the jacuzzi was always on. There was a second 'jacuzzi' but I think it had cold water, so could be used only as a plunge pool. We didn't use or see the sauna so I can't comment on that. The 'gym' was really just a treadmill and a bench for sit-ups etc. but it's better than nothing. Pool towels are provided.
At the end of our stay we had a late evening flight so again our suitcases were taken and kept; the gentlemen helping with the bags was very friendly and said 'not to worry, they were his responsibility now'. Check-out was easy, no hassle and if you want Reception personnel can advise you on restaurants and attractions to visit in the area.
All in all this hotel turned out to be a gem of a find in the middle of Barcelona. We would definitely go again.More
