“Simply perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2010

We stayed at Villa Soro for 3 nights in late June and it rained continuously for those 3 complete days, so we were very pleased that we stayed at such a warm and comfortable hotel.
Pay the extra and stay in the main house as it is really lovely and all the lounges, breakfast room and bars are in this part of the hotel.
The service - friendliness of the staff was amazing - top marks to Iris on the front desk who was very kind. One of the front desk people doesn't speak English, so we were ígnored by him, but this was the only small problem during our stay. We decided one night to brave the weather and go to a tapas bar close to the hotel. We took the car, got drenched getting to the bar, then found that it was closed. So back to the Hotel for Room Service that closed at 10.30pm. However they were able to provide hot bread rolls, a big plate of cheese and a bottle of red wine so we were very happy. We agree with all the reviews re great WIFI, carparking and fantastic breakfast with cheerful helpful staff - nothing is too much trouble and the emphasis is on providing great service from housekeeping all the way through. Even the iron and ironing board came in seconds and the iron and jug for water was in a basket - attention to detail was perfect.
Yes its not close to the beach or the old town, but if, like us, you get dreadful weather (3 in 4 days in San Seb have rain, you can't ask for a better hotel.

“The Hotel from Hell!"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

AFTER TRAVELING 8 HOURS INTERNATIONALLY BY PLANE TO MADRID AND THEN 5 HOURS BY CAR TO SAN SEBASTIAN, my husband and I were eagerly anticipating arriving to Villa Soro.

Upon our arrival into San Sebastian at 10 pm, (plane was delayed 2 hours in the US), we were not just jet lagged by famished.

We were so looking forward to some friendly, Spanish hospitality. That was not the case.

Not only did we have to park our own car and carry our luggage up several flights of stairs, we were also informed that room service was not available.

We would therefore have to wait until they serve breakfast the next day.

Not even a piece of bread was offered!

Upon walking into the room, we immediately were disappointed to see that their version of a "King" is two single beds placed side-by-side and then strapped together.

Therefore, this is not a place I would recommend if you are trying to have a romantic get-away with your spouse! My husband and I did have a good laugh in the morning when he wound up smack in the crease between the two beds, though!

To add insult to injury, the weather also did not cooperate. It was not only colder than we had anticipated, but it rained incessantly and was winding.

So much for enjoying the beach and the seaside establishments!

The breakfast was a simple continental breakfast. For those accustomed to "fine dining" you will have to venture off the property to do that.

In terms of location, the Villa Soro is a long taxi ride from all the wonderful sites.

So, if you want to be in a central location and walking distance from all that San Sebastian has to offer, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!

Thinking of having a Spa service at this location? I would respectfully pass if you don't mind having a stranger come to your hotel room to give you a massage.

Next time, we visit San Sebastian, without a doubt, we will stay at either hotel Maria Cristina or at the Hotel Londres.

“A Jewel just Minutes from the Old Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2010

Villa Sorro turned out to be one of our favorite places during a month-long drive around Spain. We found its location to be perfect – a simple 15 minute walk to the old town – close enough to be easily walkable, but far enough away to be a bit more quiet and peaceful.

We were trying to decide between the Maria Cristina and the Villa Sorro. While we had an excellent meal at Saigon at the Maria Cristina, after seeing both hotels, we are certain we made the correct choice.

Our room was luxurious, very well appointed, large, lovely and bright with a very comfortable king bed – the pillows could be better—with all non-alcoholic drinks in the mini bar included in the rate. The bathroom had a separate shower and bath and was quite large.

There is free WiFi in each room and the onsite parking is free --- two big pluses with the rates some hotels in the bigger cities are getting these days. The continental breakfast, also included in the rate, was plentiful and the fruit was excellent.

There is also a small workout room and bikes which are available for guests’ use.

Our only negative comment would be that while the staff if very friendly and gracious, some were not as knowledgeable about the town, the restaurants, and other touristy kinds of details as they probably should be. But, there is a very good tourist information center right in the old town which can provide information on virtually anything you might need.

“Perfect place, perfect service in a perfect city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2010

The hotel is incredible. Kind and quick service(opposed to the rest of Spain), really prepared staff and a rverycharming hotel.
The rooms are big, very comfortable and the bathroom is extremely clean and big. The tips from the concierge were really good and although the hotel is not in located in the city center the 10 min walk is worthwhile.

“Understated elegance and charm”

Not the obvious choice in San Sebastian but the best. A restored Basque villa set off road with restrained grandeur and within 10 minutes walk of the centre.

Free parking and wifi in rooms is a definite asset for those with cars and iphones. There is a computer for guest use at the top of the stairs.

Elegant, charming and welcoming. Staff were outstanding and genuinely welcoming and keen to assist, even to the extent of repairing the hole in my trouser pocket.

We felt like family members in a country house where the proprietor felt guilty about having to leave on urgent business but left instruction to look after the guests!

Free soft drinks in the minibar - what a fabulous touch!

Ideal location for foodies - check out Arzak - 10 minutes up the road (make the reservation yourself online and reconfirm - which the hotel will be happy to do.

Do not be put off by lack of restaurant on site .... there is room service although we didn't use it. Throw yourself with reckless abandon into the many pintxo bars in the old town.

Jamon Jamon!!!
