“Comfortable, stylish, helpful staff and a great location”

What's not to like? We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as part of our summer vacation in Spain.

It was easy to find - we caught the bus from the airport (3247 - goes every half an hour, costs €1.30pp) which dropped us off immediately after crossing the bridge near the Guggenheim. From there it was an easy 10 minute walk with a suitcase across the Zubizuri bridge and the hotel was fine to locate with the colourful windows.

Staff at checkin were very helpful, and while we were a couple of hours early were happy to give us a room as soon as it became available and mind the bags while we went out to explore.

The rooms are very comfortable - nicely decorated, modern, clean. Really liked the slightly minimalist style. All amenities worked fine (safe, fridge, tv etc) and thought that everything was quite well maintained.

We ate once in the 'cafe/bar' - the food was perfectly acceptable, although service was slightly slow. But very comfortable seats and a nice outlook over the river.

They have good services - onsite parking if you have hired a car, or bike hire if you plan to get out and view the city by bike.

It's a good location - not far to walk to Casco Viejo (Old Town) for a wander around the shops, bars and restaurants. Equally, an easy 10 minute walk to the Guggenheim - either by the Zubizuri bridge close to the hotel, or walking a little further past the Guggenheim (also a great opportunity for photos by night when it is lit up) to the pedestrian bridge (Puente de Pedro Arrupe) a little further down.

You can also use the Funicular (a block behind the hotel) to visit Artxanda for more great views of the city (at €0.90 each way, a great option) We found that walking down gave us the chance to appreciate the city from a variety of angles.

There are plenty of small bars/cafes in the street directly behind the hotel and we found the staff in a few that we visited to be very friendly and food/drink very cheap (but lovely!). Fresh food, well made and served with a smile. Excellent.

All in all a lovely hotel experience, and would have no qualms recommending it to anyone visiting Bilbao.

“Very pleasant”

Good location and extremely comfortable hotel, an easy walk to the Guggenheim. We had a room overlooking a sidestreet which was fine, as quieter. Good value given that a varied breakfast was included.

“Lovely hotel - close to everything and great value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

Only stayed one night, but the staff could not have been more helpful. We were upgraded to a Superior room with a little coloured glass balcony overlooking the river. Only a 5-10 minute walk to the Guggenheim (you could see it from the balcony if only there weren't so many trees!) and about 15 minutes in the other direction to the old quarter. We booked with booking.com and our deal included 2 free passes to the Guggenheim so it turned out to be amazing value. Would definitely stay there again.

“Excellent Choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

I stayed here for three nights in July 2009. I booked the hotel using the Hisperia website - I would recommend this as they had a pay for 2 nights, stay 3 deal. My room was very clean and everything worked. The bar service was good and it was lovely to sit outside on the terrace in the warm evening weather - I would recommend their cocktails.

The reception was a little understaffed at times - I did have to wait - however, the receptionist was always more than happy enough to assist me with directions, dinner bookings, etc, without rushing me along.

Overall, I would definately stay here again - principally because of the location of the hotel and the good service from staff.

“VERY NICE”

The only drawback to this clean, well-run, thoughtfully designed hotel is that it is across the river from good places to eat - the area is residential and not that visitor-friendly. And the common spaces downstairs are small, the restaurant and cafe expensive for what we wanted. BUT it is directly across from the Calatrava Bridge and a short walk along the river to the Goog. The rooms are really thoughtfully designed - great bathrooms, oak cladding on the doors that keeps hall and room-to-room noise to a minimum. The A/C broke while we were there but they had it working soon - we wouldn't have needed it on the river side of the building but we were facing inwards to a very quiet courtyard and got no direct breeze. The front desk was great - hyper in a good way. Liked everything, which is rare for me! Oh - and for the best breakfast, turn right out of the hotel, left at the next corner, and there is an amazing bakery just down on the left. If only we had discovered it sooner...
