The Ascott is only "reasonably priced" considering that it is in the expensive 16th arrondissement, amidst many other 4 star properties that charge 40-50% more than it does. It's facilities and amenities are functional and practical for business travelers and there are extras that will please everyone,
-- the rooms are very spacious -- with a big desk (free, fast wifi), adequate lighting, an in room safe, plenty of closet space, albeit with those wooden hangars that are attached to the bar that you can't hang anywhere else...
-- the bathrooms are big, water pressure is good, separate shower (rainforest head), and bath, and occitaine toiletries
-- the gym is great, clean, with trainers. three treadmills, weights, everything you need for a basic workout. The swimming pool is more like a big bathtub, though. Didn't use it.
-- the carpet and furniture are clean and functional.
-- the service was all right , considering that this is Europe and nothing happens particularly fast (compared to Asia). Not sure what the complaints of "surliness" were about -- i thought that the reception was pretty pleasant provided that you go through the french protocal. (bonjour, merci, etc)
-- last nice touch is that there is a permanent bowl of fruit in the lobby. and the fruits are good fruits, not just cheap apples and bananas... And there is a gourmet (capsules) coffee machine in the lobby for free.
My only complaint is that while there is a minibar fridge there is no water boiler for in room coffee/tea. Considering that many cheaper three star places provide in room coffee , for a property of this standard not to have it seems amiss.
All in all, glad i stayed here and would probably return here if i'm in town again for business
