Costes has got two thing going for it:
1. The location
2. Decor and courtyard terrace restaurant
Against:
1. Extremely expensive
2. Poxy small rooms - even the suites
3. Arrogant, rude and very unfriendly service - they make you feel like they are doing you a favour serving you...
4. Food was poor, there are much nicer restaurants in Paris
My girlfriend surprised me with a weekend Paris and when she told me we were going to stay at Costes the excitement was dampened immediately as my previous visits to the Costes had all been very aggrevating, irritating, not relaxing and very disappointing. Nevertheless, I was hoping this time it might be different however as expected nothing had changed. It was still the same arrogant, unhelpful, rude and impersonal bunch as always.
Repeatedly through out the weekend (you would think they remember you after a few days), I was chased off tables and chairs by pitbull staff whenever I went outside to sit down for a drink on a virtually empty terrace and was told "you can't sit there". Only when I told them I was staying at the hotel they would mumble something and reluctantly leave me alone. Service was appalling and everytime I tried to get their attention they would just look the other way (almost saying to me, "you wait and I'll come over when I feel like it". Needless to say, I never got the feeling I was treated like a human being (let alone a customer) and when you are paying 750 euros a night and 10 euros for a cup of tea this is the least thing you can expect.
Then, to top it all off on the Sunday morning the telephone in the room rang (9:30, 10:00, 10:30) and every time I picked up there was no one on the other side. I hadn't ordered a wake up call and none of my friends knew I was staying there so I can only assume the staff did it to make sure we were awake and rush us to vacate the room quickly.
I love Paris, I love my girlfriend and I can not stand Costes. Three strikes - out! I will try my best to avoid Costes and their rude bunch in the future.
