My husband had spent two very hectic days checking out the sites in Northern Ireland when we drove to Ardtarmon House from Portrush in County Antrim. It was exactly the experience we wanted and needed! The estate is gorgeous and secluded. So quiet and so peaceful. The home has been in the owner's home for well over 150 years and when you enter, you really feel like you've gone back in time a bit. Our room was very large, the bed incredibly comfortable, and it included a well-appointed en suite bathroom. Also, if you are a reader, there are books everywhere! A readers dream! The owners were so charming it almost takes your breath away and steals your heart. We were served tea and gooseberry pie (the gooseberries were picked from their gardens!) on arrival and spent a lovely couple of hours talking with Charles, the owner of the estate, about the history of his family, the estate, and of various other things.. He also told us to take a walk down to what is essentially a private beach about 5 minutes away. It was breathtaking! As with other B&Bs, we got a lovely Irish breakfast. Our experience at the Ardtarmon House was one of the highlights of our Irish adventures and one we will always remember! I highly, highly recommend. It's more expensive than others you can find, but the extra money is well worth it. A special, special place.
