“We Loved this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2008

My family stayed here for 2 nights using 4 of the rooms (9 people total). It was the first place we stayed on a long Ireland vacation. We all loved it and would recommend it highly. We were allowed to gather in the living room at any time and did often. There was a nice patio for the smoker. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast was great. Helen's local advice was excellent for food, pubs, activities. It was a 20 minute walk to the center of town (Kilkenny castle) but there were food and stores closer than that. We enjoyed the walk after a full day of flying and then driving for hours. My mom uses a wheel chair and there was ample room for her and a bathroom for the handicapped. We would stay there again.

  • Liked — Large Clean Rooms
  • Disliked — It wasn't in the center of town

“Loved this B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2008

Nice place. Very clean rooms, much larger than normal. There were 3 of us (me, husband and 20yr old daughter) and the room was a great size. Immaculate bathroom. Very big. Breakfast good and home made.

A good 15-20 minute walk to the CityCentre. Quite except for road noise.

  • Liked — Cleanliness
  • Disliked — Far walk from CItyCenter

“Very pleasant stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2007

Clean, modern room. Not a traditional Irish B&B (which we love too) but a more updated furnished room. Breakfast was good, and you are fairly close to town but far enough away for quiet. We drove to town but you could make a fairly long walk too. Staff was friendly too, and helpful for suggestions.

  • Liked — The room, and helpful owner.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

“Great room....BUT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2007

Location: It's a little far to walk to town or to any restaurants, but it has good access to a major thoroughfare into town.

Room: Very nice. TV, coffee/tea maker, GREAT bed, immaculate bathroom. Excellent shower/water pressure BUT hot water was hit and miss. The other bad thing: noise. Any activity in the hallway or breakfast area echoes everywhere. Worst case of this I have ever heard....the noise was like a college dormitory. Breakfast was not noteworthy...pretty average for Irish B&B's.

Service: Checking out was about the transaction, not about our stay/experience and there was no empathy/explanation for the lack of hot water. That was disappointing.

The room is fantastic, but I will probably see what else I can find before jumping back to Laragh house.

“Not all that”

After reading all the glowing reviews I expected great things. We arrived at the B&B at 8pm and were greeted warmly and shown to our room, which was fine but had a dirty carpet and cracks in the walls. Also, we only had a shower. We were told we could change rooms the next day as all the rooms with bath were taken. That was very kind of them and we did indeed change rooms (for a bigger room, although it had a broken curtain rail that collapsed when you tried to draw the curtains!). The breakfast was not good. I've had some wonderful fry-ups in B&Bs, but the fried egg was rock solid, cheapo sausages, no beans or mushrooms. The coffee was good, and the black and white pudding was fine too, but overall we were unimpressed. On checking out we asked if there was a train timetable for trains back to Dublin. There wasn't, but we were told there was one at 'around 2pm'. Luckily we popped into Tourist Information and checked - the train was at 1.45, not 2. For 100 euro a night this wasn't really worth the money and although the decor was modern and smart I wouldn't stay here again.

  • Liked — Clean bathrooms, nice decor
  • Disliked — bad breakfast, location wasn't great
