“perfectly wonderful and slept well”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2010

I love the spanish Arch and have stayed there before you cannot beat the location. We were there during the week for 3 nights, so got a great rate of 65 Euro per night, you simply can not beat that. The room was spotless, loved the little balcony and view out onto the Corrib from teh top floor.

The staff were warm and welcoming. The only issue is the hot water just did not want to be more than warm. They put a service call in, but it was not fixed before we were gone. This was only an issue the last day, and to be honest, I could live with it just fine.

Will stay there again and again. Of course McDonough's is right next door for lunch, and also O' Riordan's is across the street and about 10 doors up for the best most tasty, huge affordable breakfasts.

I honestly did not notice the music being to loud, or street noise. I ama light sleeper, but we were on the top floor so that muffled it.
Bed super comfy and bedding so soft you just melted into it :)
Cheers! Well done Spanish Arch Hotel!

“What a bargain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

€75 room only per room per night is excellent value. The Spanish Arch is right in the heart of the Latin Quarter in the centre of Galway city, beside the docks and just around the corner from Eyre Square. It's also in a pedestrian area so there's no disturbance from traffic noise. The room we had was a good size with the comfiest bed. En suite of course with a powerful shower. The hotel doesn't do breakfast but there are tea/coffee making facilities in the room and the hotel does food from 12 noon and there are excellent trad sessions at night in the bar. The staff couldn't be more helpful. I needed a hair dryer. They had one up to our room within minutes. They do ask for a deposit of €50 when you check in but it was given back to us without any delay when we checked out. Also if you're driving, park in the car park beside Jurys (two doors from Spanish Arch), get the hotel to stamp the car park ticket before you leave and you can park for a substantially reduced rate. Surprisingly even though we were in a room facing the street, the noise outside was not a problem although I definitely wouldn't recomment this area for people who like early nights.

“great location for enjoying galway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

Stayed in the Spanish Arch Hotel at the start of June during the week, had a great stay, the room was at the front of the hotel so we could soak up the atmosphere. They had a great traditional band on the two nights we stayed that was one of the best bands i have seen. The hotel is located right in the middle of the happening area so everything was within minutes walk from us. Had expected it to be noisy due to reviews i read however it was no issue for us. well worth staying here if you want to experience all of galway.

“Very central but very noisy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

The room we were initially given had not yet been cleaned and was in a bad state. The receptionist then gave us a room on the top floor, which was at least clean. You can see how the hotel must have been lovely once but it is now rather shabby. The windows do nothing to minimise the noise from the street below. If you do stay at this hotel be prepared to stay out for most of the night and to not require a great deal of sleep. On the up side, at least the band playing were playing decent enough music! Do not stay here if you plan on getting to bed before 3am. The band had finished by 2 but the people on the street were shouting and singing for the next couple of hours after that. There were two hours of quiet and then the bin men started collecting and the cafes opened around 8 for breakfast!!
There is nothing in the hotel apart from the rooms and the bar. There are better hotels that are just as central but would at least give the option of a room towards the back for some quiet if you required it.
Be forewarned. For €99 I would expect a lot more.

“Worst Hotel Ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2010

My wife, mother-in-law and I arrived in the early evening and checked out just a few hours later. The band in the pub began playing at 10:00 p.m. and it sounded like they were in our room. There is no way anyone could sleep for the four hours the band was going to play till 2:00 a.m. We don't know if the band actually played till 2:00 a.m. because by 11:00 p.m. we had had enough. When I checked-out, the band was playing so loudly that the receptionist and I had to communicate with mouth nearly touching ear and we still had to repeat ourselves to be understood. In the prior 30 days, my wife and I have traveled extensively throughout Ireland, the Netherlands and Peru. The Spanish Arch was the worst hotel ever...by far! If you are looking for a place to party till 2:00 a.m., this may be the place for you. If, however, you (as we) were foolish enough to think a hotel room should be a place where you can sleep peacefully at midnight, this is definitely not the place for you--no way.
