“Fantastic family destination, great hotel, friendly helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

We have just returned from a great few days in Galway. There was lots to see and do. The Galway Arts Festival was on and this added to the holiday atmosphere. Our stay at The Westwood was excellent. We had planned to stay just three nights but didn't want to leave so decided to stay an extra night which was no problem, we didn't have to move rooms. We went with another family and asked for adjoining rooms. This was a good idea for the kids as they were able to move between both rooms. Highly recommend the bar food. The burgers are huge. Liam our barman was so helpful and attentive to us. This means a lot when you are traveling with small children but nothing was any trouble for him. Thanks Liam! We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely. Spacious and comfortable. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends and family and I'm sure we will stay there again ourselves.

“Not as family friendly as web site implies”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

Arrived on a Sunday evening for 5 night stay. Enquired at reception re location of the playroom with the "array of toys" as advertised in website to be met with blank look and to be told that basically it didnt exist but that if I enquired at reception the following morning they could set the Wii up in the room for us. This was not what we wanted as the idea of the playroom appealed to us cause the children could meet other kids and give them a break from the hotel room. Also had bad experiences two nights with dinners. 3 dinners included in package but only used two due to long waits for food both in the bar and in the main restaurant. Quality of food very good but took too long to arrive and the excuse of being very busy with tours not acceptable. Main restaurant also very small and poky - a nightmare with kids as tables too close to each other!
Bedroom fine and no noise but we weren't offered the free popcorn n movies for the kids.

Dear Past Guest,

Thank you for your recent review of our property. We do indeed advertise an unsupervised playroom on our website and it states on the webpage in question that this is available during the periods when we are busiest with families. During the time that you and your family stayed with us the figure that we have set as our minimum number of children in order to have the room available was not reached. When this is the case we do offer to have some of the games associated with the playroom set up in your guest bedroom as was the case here. On foot of your comments we are looking at this minimum number issue with a view to changing our strategy on same.

I am sorry to read of your issues with the service in the dining room - I can assure you that any delays encountered are not representative of the normal standards that apply here. No one category of guest receives more focus than another so the presence of a tour in another part of the hotel should not have had any effect on your time with us and I apologise that you were told this was the case.

Our dining room is quite small but that in itself is one of the reasons why we receive such a high level of repeat custom here as we offer a more intimate experience than many of our larger competitors that seat 150-200 people for dinner regularly during the summer season.

Finally I would say that details of the free movie offer and the free popcorn treats and how to avail of same were available in the welcome pack which you received on arrival.

Again many thanks for your review. I do hope that the issues commented on above will not deter you from visiting with us again in which case I would ask that you contact me driectly upon booking.

Kind regards,
Dave Kelly MIHI

“Excellent Service at the Westwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

I had a really enjoyable stay at the Westwood House Hotel in Galway. Arriving in late from London to a warm welcome at reception I discovered I'd forgotten my contact lens solution. What to do? Without hesitation the receptionist rang an out-of-hours pharmacy to see if they had what I needed in stock, and told me he'd have it for me within a half an hour. Relieved, I settled in to the comfortable, spacious room (equipped with a double and a single), ran a deep bath and relaxed. Contacts cleaned and stowed, I slept soundly. Breakfast was delicious. I chose smoked fish with scrambled eggs: light and tasty. Couldn't resist the oatmeal porridge with honey and strawberries to start. Tea and toast, and I was ready for the day. Wifi and broad band kept me connected to the world. I'd happily go back again. Highly reccomended.

This is a great hotel, from the moment you walk into the reception area you are really impressed. Our room was lovely & big for 2 adults & 2 children.Breakfast was perfect every morning & we had dinner 1 night in the restaurant and it too could not be faulted. The location of the hotel to the city center was great as you could be parked & walking around Eyre square within 10 mins of leaving the hotel. But most important all the staff were very friendly & helpful which is so important.
We will be back to stay soon so well done to the Westwood House Hotel.
