“Excellent Service at the Westwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

I had a really enjoyable stay at the Westwood House Hotel in Galway. Arriving in late from London to a warm welcome at reception I discovered I'd forgotten my contact lens solution. What to do? Without hesitation the receptionist rang an out-of-hours pharmacy to see if they had what I needed in stock, and told me he'd have it for me within a half an hour. Relieved, I settled in to the comfortable, spacious room (equipped with a double and a single), ran a deep bath and relaxed. Contacts cleaned and stowed, I slept soundly. Breakfast was delicious. I chose smoked fish with scrambled eggs: light and tasty. Couldn't resist the oatmeal porridge with honey and strawberries to start. Tea and toast, and I was ready for the day. Wifi and broad band kept me connected to the world. I'd happily go back again. Highly reccomended.

This is a great hotel, from the moment you walk into the reception area you are really impressed. Our room was lovely & big for 2 adults & 2 children.Breakfast was perfect every morning & we had dinner 1 night in the restaurant and it too could not be faulted. The location of the hotel to the city center was great as you could be parked & walking around Eyre square within 10 mins of leaving the hotel. But most important all the staff were very friendly & helpful which is so important.
We will be back to stay soon so well done to the Westwood House Hotel.

“Terrific hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

We arrived on Sunday 4th July for three nights bed, breakfast and dinner on three nights.
Reception was friendly and efficient and we were soon in our room .This was quite large and airy with three windows looking out on the main road. the usual tea -making facilities were provided with a proper filter pot for the filter coffee . Also on the table was a bowl of fruit, two bottles of water and two mini bottles of wine. Toweling robes and slippers were neatly packaged on a super king size bed. Multi channel tv and radio was available via a 32in flat screen tv which was also used for internet and to buy movies. The bathroom was large and well stocked with the usual shampoos etc All very clean. The safe is not large enough to take a laptop.
Dinner was very pleasant from a limited menu and the house wine was very good value at 15euro.The food was cooked to order and tasted very well. in fact, we did not sample the sweets menu because we simply could not eat anymore. A pot of filer coffee and some mint sweets concluded the meal, King prawns have a surcharge of two euro and fillet steak 5 euro.
Breakfast was very good. Again the fry was done to order with first class foods and there was a wide array of cereals etc. The staff were friendly and attentive without being over fussy.
The downside of this hotel is its location beside a busy junction where there can be quite a bit of traffic noise.
There is no entertainment Sunday to Thursday so a taxi is a must after dinner

Dear Past Guest ,

Thank you for your recent extensive review of your stay and of the hotel. I was delighted to read that your enjoyed your time with us and will be sure to pass on your comments to all the team here.

Just to let you know that aswell as the freephone taxi service which you mention is on offer here there is also an excellent local bus service which runs from right outside the hotel into the city centre at the cost of just €1.60 so the more costly taxi options is not always a neccessity for those trips into the city centre.

This hotel is top class. From the min we landed we were greeted with friendly staff. it felf like home, cozy comfortable, and relaxing.
This hotel is just top class. We went down for a meal and a few drinks the food was excellent and the staff couldnt do enough to please us. A young Boy Darren was very professional and was able to guide and help us. The girls at reception took their time to speak to us and was very welcoming.
I cant wait to visit this hotel again.

“Stay cut short because of lack of sleep”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

I chose to stay at this hotel knowing that it did not have a city centre location yet was fairly accessible in around 5 mins by car - it advertised the attributes of a quiet country hotel.

Because of a disability I asked to be placed in a conveniently located room prior to my arrival. (The room I was allocated was on the 2nd floor close to the lift which was fine as I didnt have to walk long distances)

On arrival I was happy enough with the room. In the evening following a long journey to get there I wanted to get to sleep early but was unable to because music from a wedding reception continued until after 3am.

When that stopped i was kept awake even longer (and awoken early) by heating / ventilation equipment and/or lift motors - I would compare sound levels to a running car engine not far from a window - until then it had been masked by the sounds from the wedding. I had to resort to trying to sleep using in-ear headphones to block out the noise.

I complained at reception the following morning and agreed to change rooms to a quieter part of the hotel - I didnt realise until trying to have an early night following a long day sightseeing that the second room was directly above the hotel bar - I mean literally over the bar - I could hear every word of every song (this room was on the first floor - the hotel accomodation was over 2 floors). I found this hugely distressing considering my previous nights experience. When i called reception i was assured that the music would stop by 11.30 but it continued until 1am.

The next morning I was offered a change of room yet again but didnt feel I wanted to stay there any longer and so left a day early cutting short my trip. This was my first time in Galway.

Needless to say my experience of my stay here has been overshadowed by the truly awful location of the rooms. This hotel may be a good place to stay at if you are attending an event but not so if you want a quiet relaxing place to stay independently.

I was offered discount voucher for a future stay but declined this when checking out.

Dear Past Guest,

Firstly thank you for your review of our property and for choosing us your accommodation provider for your recent trip to Galway. We welcome all feedback whether positive or negative as in this instance.

On foot of your review I would like you to know that we contacted our lift maintenance company and requested them to undertake a review of the lift mechanism from a noise point of view. They have returned a number of recommendations that they tell us will improve the situation and we are following up on these. We hope the works will be completed over the coming weeks.

Thus should you wish to again visit Galway I do hope that you will give us the chance to redeem ourselves by offering you an uninterrupted & restful nights sleep. In this instance please be sure to contact myself directly upon booking.
