I stayed here for 4 nights, travelling as a thirty-something woman solo. Felt safe walking to and from the hotel into the center of Dublin both day and night. I am a big city person though, so someone not comfortable in cities may want to walk during the day and take a cab at night. I did that for convenience sake and it was very easy and not too expensive. There is not a lot going on in this part of town (Georgian section), but it's an easy 15-20 walk to all the shops and restaurants on Grafton Street and Temple Bar. Plus, those areas were hectic and loud--great to go out in, but maybe not the best to stay in, depending on what you like. The staff at Pembroke was very helpful and polite. The rooms were a good size, very comfortable, and impeccably clean. Very comfortable bed. There is an elevator which always worked. Also a safe in the room, which I appreciate. I booked my stay on lonelyplanet.com which was very convenient and easy to use. There is a cancellation option up to 24 hours ahead, and then only one night's penalty if you have to cancel. This was important to me because I had already rescheduled once due to the volcano in Iceland. I highly recommend this hotel!
