“Good atmosphere and service ; food nice but not fantastic”

Went here with a group of eight. Very good atmosphere and service from the first moment we entered. Up front we were served some bread with a choice of dips ; pesto dip was beautiful. Moving on to starters quite a few of us had egg , asparagus dish which a little dissapointing ; we had been told it was lovely so maybe it was built up too much. For main course there was quite a mix bewteen us ; I did not have the steak pie but it looked very impressive although the girls found the portion a bit too big. I had sirloin steak ( medium ) and my wife had fillet steak ( medimu rare ) ; both were excellent. Some of the side orders were dissaponting ; I found the onions a little too sweet as did most people at our table . Also ordered gratin potatoes with bacon but it was quite bland and lacked the expected creamy texture. On the plus side recommended red wine ( Australian four grapes combined ... think Cabernet , Shiraz and two others ) by waiter was beautiful.
Would eat here again but was not blown away by the food taste ( onions , gratin etc )

One interesting aside is watch out for the danger of the hidden step at top of stairs. One of our party fell over the step and had to visit VHI Switfcare Clinic following day

“Really good food and a recommended place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

Interesting and varied menu, attentive staff; well-cooked and presented; good flavours; good choice of wine. Busy on a Thursday in July and 7.30 when we arrived - need to wait five minutes for a table to clear. But it was busy because the place is popular and good. We would very happily return here.

“High expectations exceeded”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

I visited Market Lane on Sunday after reading the fantastic reviews here on Trip Advisor and I was not disappointed.

I had the tempura of monkfish and my dining companion had the steak pie with murphys stout followed by a strawberry glory and a chocolate cup. All courses were absolutely fantastic and the portions more than generous. Looking forward to returning there again.

“Delicious Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

Enjoyed a beautiful meal, melt in the mouth fillet steak and the Strawberry Glory was devine. Lovey surroundings, no pressure to get us out, relaxed atmosphere and attentive staff. Would definitely recomend.

“Very Disappointed”

Visited Market Lane based on the reviews. It has a very interesting menu and a good location. We went for the early evening offer which with 4 courses at €20 looked great value. Started with the French onion soup which was ok. The County pork and liver pate was an enormous portion. The main courses we had were the Slow cooked ham hock and the smoked haddock.Very disappointed with both, the ham was an enormous bone with the meat totally lacking any taste, the cabbage was not properly cooked but the cauliflower was totally overcooked.Potatoes had no flavor of any sort. The skin had been burnt on both pieces of haddock and again had no flavor.Portions are very large. It seems to be a place for a big feed.Other diners seemed satisfied and staff are very professional. There were two people dining alone and the staff went out of their way to make them feel welcome.
