“Very Disappointed”

Visited Market Lane based on the reviews. It has a very interesting menu and a good location. We went for the early evening offer which with 4 courses at €20 looked great value. Started with the French onion soup which was ok. The County pork and liver pate was an enormous portion. The main courses we had were the Slow cooked ham hock and the smoked haddock.Very disappointed with both, the ham was an enormous bone with the meat totally lacking any taste, the cabbage was not properly cooked but the cauliflower was totally overcooked.Potatoes had no flavor of any sort. The skin had been burnt on both pieces of haddock and again had no flavor.Portions are very large. It seems to be a place for a big feed.Other diners seemed satisfied and staff are very professional. There were two people dining alone and the staff went out of their way to make them feel welcome.

“Best meal I had in Ireland!!”

My guy & I tried this place on a recommendation from our B&B host (Tony at Fernroyd House - EXCELLENT B&B!) and are so glad we did! We got home 2 weeks ago and I am STILL talking about this meal. We didn't have a reservation but were seated right away. The service was spot on the entire night! We split a duck confit appetizer that was very savory. Then I had the best steak I had the entire trip - just melted in my mouth & seasoned and cooked perfectly! He had the fish with a creamy sauce that was delicious. Then we finished off with a yummy dessert. All told the bill was EURO 60-65 - an excellent value for all that food plus 2 drinks each (this dinner could have easily cost $100+ in Boston)! I have been & will continue to tell everyone to go to Market Lane when in Cork!

“Simply good food”

Buzzing restaurant where free tables don't stay free very long. Good homely and fresh food, am just sorry I had no room left for the extensive dessert list.

“Buzzing eatery with a fantastic menu at great prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

had a lovley meal with family, the decor is lovely, great vibe in the place, excellent unobtrusive yet speedy service and an inspired menu. Will be back to try the ham Hock, it sounded amazing, but i had the tempura monkfish instead ( divine!)
loved the griddles bread and dips as an informal starte and tasted my hubbies french onion soup with Gruyere cheese, which was very moreish.
would highly recommend!
