“Tired and disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

Let me start by saying that the staff were very friendly and plesant. I phoned ahead before booking to ensure that we would be able to leave our bags in a secure area once we had checked out so we didn't have to drag them round with us all day, I was informed that this wouldn't be a problem - however, when it came to checking out that was a whole different story. But to give credit to the lady I dealt with she did arrange something for me, but did advise me that it is policy NOT to accept bags for storage after check out - so be warned!

Location is excellent, a short walk down to the main street in Glasgow.

Noise, it is VERY noisey in Glasgow, especially at night, the flat is very warm and sleeping with the window open is not really an option as the level of noise outside prevents sleep!

The real problem with this flat (2,3) is the level of maintenance is nill. The following faults I noticed while staying here:

Bulbs were blown in both bathrooms (1 in each) 2 bulbs in the kitchen, and both under cupboard lights didn't work. Both extractor fans in the bathrooms didn't work. There is a large hole in the kitchen floor that you "fall in to" as you walk over it. There are several gaps in the solid wood florring throughout - a real shame as it's a nice quality flooring. There are stains on the couch (which is very uncomforable) There are chips in the coffee table, and a chip on the edge of the kitchen work surface. Both bedroom carpets were stained and heavily worn. Both bathroom floors were stained and need deep cleaning. The shower screen does not stay on the edge of the bath, and instead wants to open by itself, soaking the bathroom floor when in use. The toilet seat in the en suite was damaged. There is not enough crockery and cutlery for use in the flat - we were two and we ran out, so I don't know how 4 people would manage!

The whole flat is desperate to be redecorated.

Possibly the most worrying item on my list was the fact the fire alarm panel in the hall has a Fault registered on it.

Free wireless internet was a nice touch.

To summarise; the staff are lovely and very friendly and helpful. Value I would say was good, and certainly this kind of accomodation is far better than staying in a hotel! But, please guys, get this flat sorted out and spend some money looking after it!

“What a let down!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

Great location and views, tastefully decorated, clean and well equipped. Looks amazing on the website.
What a shame that the apartments have been so badly maintained.
We stayed in a two bedroom flat with an ensuite bathroom in the master bedroom. The shower fittings were broken so the shower head wouldn't fix onto the wall and you could see where someone had attempted to fix it, the toilet seat was broken and the sink was blocked. We all had to share the other bathroom. There were no instructions for the complicated microwave/combi oven which turned itself off every ten minutes (same thing mentioned in other reviews) I had to sit in the kitchen and watch it so we could cook our meal. The wooden floors had big gaps in and sank alarmingly as you walked over them. The children had to wear their shoes all the time so they didn't trip or catch their toes. There was no way the staff were not aware of all the problems, not that we saw anybody. As we were only there for two nights we didn't have time to wait around to catch someone.
These flats could be great, if the owners put in a little effort and showed some consideration for their guests. One problem after another really took the shine off our break and I wouldn't risk staying there again. We wasted a lot of time trying to sort things out, very frustrating when you know that the staff are well aware and have notgot the decency to inform you or do anything about it.

“awful - avoid”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2009

stayed here for 3 nights in early April with partner and friend; problems throughout weekend with heating and intermittent water supply; apartment clean enough, though furniture shoddy & carpets stained. Neither bathroom had working extractor fan; faulty heated towel rail in one bathroom. Noise from adjacent flat let to 'hen party'. Unsafe flooring in kitchen area of living room - no instructions supplied for washing machine or dishwasher. Two letters of complaint remain unanswered, several weeks later.

“Don't bother”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2008

Stayed here last July for a birthday. During our stay the fire alarm went off, but there was no fire escape plan in the room. Guests were left wandering about outside the building, but due to it not being connected to the Fire Service, no fire crew arrived.
I rang the emergency phone number for the management company and was asked by the man at the other end to check if there was any smoke and decide if he should call out the fire brigade or not.
Was left feeling very unsafe and not confident this company is committed to the safety and wellbeing of guests. Have written to the company several times since August in the hope of an apology or acknowledgement that things were not as they should have been. Still waiting for the promised written response.
There is no shortage of luxury apartment accommodation in Glasgow (I've stayed in lots of them) - but in future, I'll stay clear of the Centrale and choose somewhere else.

“Comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

My sister and I stayed 4 nights at Glasgow Centrale. We had requested a twin room but were told they only had doubles however when we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment with ensuite plus main bathroom. The apartment was huge, clean and very comfortable with everything one could need, including wifi. Unfortunately some of the appliances didn't have instruction manuals. I was told there were none available. It would be helpful if some basic guidelines (e.g. to the convection microwave) could be provided. The property was handy to Queen St and Central stations, shops and buses.

  • Liked — Convenient, good value, clean
  • Disliked — Insufficient instructions on how to use appliances; slow to give codes to access building and key
